<p>While this article reveals risks and deficiencies, I continue to think that AI could become a useful way to explain records of slavery at the individual level. We are working on a project we call NESRI 2.0 which involves adding several more fields to will enrich the interconnections between the 90,000 records that we have.</p>
<p>If we eventually do this system-wide, we have the challenge of presenting this to users. I first approach is to add a table to our locality reports that lists the families, in the locality specified for the report, with a link to click into the records of any family, so people in Boston can learn of families of enslaved people in the 1700s. But I also think that I can code the database to construct a test string that can be submitted as a prompt to an AI service to get back an essay about the family - the names and relationships and events in their lives and in the community when they lived. The service would have to have guardrails to not make up information.</p>

<p>The Sydney theme is the theme for the Conference Template, and it now has a pretty significant update that seems to not be available for themes that are using it already. Here's the description:</p>
<p>Sydney Header Update<br />This version of Sydney comes with a new and improved header. Activate it by clicking the button below and you can access new options.</p>
<p>Note 1: this upgrade is optional, there is no need to do it if you are happy with your current header.</p>
<p>Note 2: your current header customizations will be lost and you will have to use the new options to customize your header.</p>
<p>Note 3: this upgrade refers only to the header (site identity and menu bar). It does not change any settings regarding your hero area (slider, video etc).</p>
<p>Note 4: Please take a full backup of your website before upgrading.</p>

This issue appears to only affect the desktop version of the website. The mobile version loads normally and is responsive. We have tested across different browsers and devices, and we are consistently running into these issues on desktop browsers.
