Redmine CUNY Academic Commons - Support #9026 (Resolved): plugin request from Carlos Guevara https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/90262017-12-20T20:22:02ZMarilyn WeberMweber@gc.cuny.edu

Carlos Guevara from BMCC asks:

"Would it be possible to get the shortcodes ultimate plugin for the CUNY CTLs website: http://cuny.is/ctl ?

Here is info about the plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/shortcodes-ultimate/ (https://wordpress.org/plugins/shortcodes-ultimate/)"

Should I ask him to fill out the plugin request form?
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #8908 (Resolved): Plugin request from Steve Brierhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/89082017-11-14T15:24:20ZMarilyn WeberMweber@gc.cuny.edu

Via user Stefano Morello:

- What's the name of the plugin/theme?

PDF Embedder

- In a few words, what does it do?

It allows to upload PDFs and embed them into pages/posts. PDFs are automatically sized to their natural size and shape.

How is the plugin/theme different from what's already provided on the Commons?

As far as I was able to discover, there seems to be no PDF embedder among the plugins already installed.

- What's the potential impact? Who will use it?

I am working on a project for Steve Brier - https://ccda.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ - we will use it to allow users to navigate through archival material directly on the website.

- Who initially made the request?

Stefano Morello / Steve Brier

- Who is the plugin author?

Dan Lester

- Say a little bit about the release history and popularity of the plugin. How many times has it been downloaded? When was it last updated?

It seems to be one of the most popular plugins for WordPress. It has over 100,000 installations and I have been using it on several other sites that I manage. It’s been updated to work with WordPress 4.9. More info here https://wordpress.org/plugins/pdf-embedder/
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #8893 (Resolved): Social paper won't connect to group? https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/88932017-11-08T19:49:40ZMarilyn WeberMweber@gc.cuny.edu

I joined a newly created group, https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/groups/connected-cuny-planning-teams/, and tried to create a Social Paper in it. The paper appears to be created but when I try to connect it to my group, I get a list of other groups I've joined but not this one. Is there simply a lag? I joined the group yesterday.

Gerry Martini reports:

The Events calendar plugin is not showing any of the events at either the admissions.commons.gc.cuny.edu site or the psccunygc.commons.gc.cuny.edu site. Is there currently planned maintenance or something? Thanks!

I see you had other problems reported in #8694 and #8552
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #8638 (Resolved): members not syncing from group to sitehttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/86382017-08-31T18:39:50ZMarilyn WeberMweber@gc.cuny.edu

This is complicated, and I'm adding Luke since he knows the beginning of this saga better than I do.

Leah Anderst had a Spring course site connected to a group. Luke cloned the site and had her attach the new site to her group. Something went wrong and so she needed to uncouple then recouple the two, which seemed to go fine. But the members of the group didn't become users of the blog. Matt "believes that linking a site to a group from Manage > Group Sites is supposed to sync membership between the group and the site" - that hasn't happened so he's asking me to report it.

Perhaps the problem appears because of the import? Or perhaps the initial false start?

I'm going to next paste in the whole back and forth in case it helps.
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #8576 (Resolved): Digital Measures plugin requesthttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/85762017-08-24T14:50:32ZMarilyn WeberMweber@gc.cuny.edu

Gerry Martini reports that the Events Calendar plug-in suddenly "does not allow us to add an organizer or a location/venue any more". Both of these features did work in the past. I went into the admissions site dashboard (https://admissions.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/post-new.php?post_type=tribe_events) and indeed, the fields are visible but you cannot add any information. I've attached a screenshot which shows that the field for event URL and cost have a writable box, but venue and organizer have nothing to click on or write in.

Gerry had had other problems with this last year - https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/5875.

Should we suggest another plug-in?

Via Zendesk, Kristin Cribbs writes:

I am the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) Coordinator at the CUNY School of Public Health. Our Office is developing a HRPP academic commons Wordpress website<https://sphhrpp.commons.gc.cuny.edu/> for faculty and student researchers, and I am reaching out with an administrative request. I would like to add a plugin to the site that allows me to collapse menu items on the left-hand sidebar. Currently, the parent and child menu items are static.

I’ve identified several plugins online that offer this functionality, however, after searching in the Plugins section, it does not appear that any of these are currently available via the CUNY Academic Commons. Further, I do not see a way for me, as a user and website administrator, to add a new Plugin. It seems these permissions are only available to the CUNY Commons team.

I would like to test out a several plugins to determine which will be the best fit for our website. If possible, can you please add the following plugins to Commons?:

· Nextend Accordion Menu

· Show-Hide / Collapse-Expand

· Collapsible Widget Area

· Nice Navigation

· Collapsing Categories

Cheryl Littman, Acting Dean of Institutional Effectiveness at Queens, reports:
"I am trying to change my CUNY Academic Commons account email address from cheryl.littman@mail.cuny.edu to cheryl.littman@qc.cuny.edu. I followed the instructions from the FAQ/Help info, changing my password as well as the account email. The screen says I'm successful, but after logging out and then back in again, the Commons Profile/Settings page still shows the email address as @mail.cuny.edu instead of @qc.cuny.edu."

I've asked her to clarify whether she was trying to chgne the password at the same time as the account email, but she says no. She has tried again with her known password and, indeed, she still gets the green notification bar that says "Your settings have been saved" I can see her in the users list (clittman) but I cannot change her address there.

I'm able to replicate this for myself. Last night I followed these instructions:
To change the email account where you receive email notifications, go to the top black navigation bar, hover over your avatar on the top right corner, and select: My Settings » General. Re-write your preferred email account in the ‘Account Email’ field, then scroll down and select “Save Changes.”
To try to change my History account (username: conduit) from mweb05@gmail.com to history@gc.cuny.edu. Got the green bar, thought all was well, but my user page still shows the gmail address.
