Redmine CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #15409 (Resolved): Commons Loading Slowhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/154092022-02-22T17:53:27ZLaurie Hurson

Hi All,

The Commons is loading really slow for me today. Not sure if it is me or something going on with the Commons. Other sites are loading at normal rates for me but the Commons seems particularly slow - video attached.

Hi All,

I am not sure if this a bug or intended behavior but when I try to view a user's sites it only list some of their sites, not all, especially and including course sites.

Some examples:

Prof Brandle's common profile list of sites: https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/members/brandle/blogs/
Brandle's courses: https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/courses/?filters%5Bkeyword%5D=brandle&order-by=semester
- some of which are public sites that are not listed in her commons profile

Another
Prof Hamptons commons profile list of sites: https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/members/scbrown205/blogs/
Pro Hamptons Courses (first two): https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/courses/?filters%5Bkeyword%5D=hampton&order-by=semester
- her site is private but I would think it still should come up in her profile?
For what its worth, Prof Hamptons group list seems to work as I assumed it would, listing (I think?) all her groups
https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/members/scbrown205/groups/

If this is a bug, i hope it can be resolved but if it is intended behavior I think we might consider modifying what is displayed here.

I think it would be ideal if, when you visit a users common's profile, you see ALL the Groups or sites that a user is associated with, including courses, irregardless of the privacy setting (unless its a hidden group). Obviously you would not be able to click into private sites and groups but I think they should still be listed? What do others think?
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #14936 (Abandoned): Commons websites blocked by SPS campus networkhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/149362021-11-03T19:49:05ZLaurie Hurson

Hi All,

I received this message from an instructional designed at SPS earlier today:

"When I’m on campus at SPS, we are unable to access any Commons Site. We can’t log into WP at all. If we’re off campus, on another network, it works as expected. Ericke, cc’d here, is our network guru at SPS. He said he opened a ticket with GC, so that is in the works.

The question to you; Have you seen this issue at other campuses? But more importantly, do you know how to fix or if you have any insights into the issue we’d be happy to hear them. "

I know we likely have little insight into the SPS network setup but have we ever had this issue in the past? How might we go about troubleshooting this and helping the SPS team access the Commons while on the SPS network and campus?

Hi All,

About a week ago I started receiving weekly emails from the commons Jquery updates plugin, content below:

-- Replying to this email will not send a message directly to the recipient or group ---

Greetings!

This is a weekly summary of the warnings still present on your site, relating to the jQuery library. These errors should be addressed as soon as possible.

There have been no reported deprecations logged in the past week, maybe you no longer need this plugin?

This email was automatically generated by the Enable jQuery Migrate Helper plugin on your website Principles of New Media

Other users have started asking what these emails are about. Is there a way we can deactivate whatever is auto-sending these emails or is this something we want users to get? I do not see an option in the dashboard area to unsubscribe from emails, and it would be need to be done o a site by site basis.
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #14249 (Resolved): Loom Embed Issuehttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/142492021-03-29T16:09:36ZLaurie Hurson

Hi all,

Loom videos are working on the Commons but when you embed from the block editor + Firefox, you get an error message in the editor. In Chrome Password-protected videos appear protected in the editor and the correct password does not work. (Screenshots attached)

Important to note, this does not happen across all sites on the Commons.
Issue visible on:
https://8nsshl2021.commons.gc.cuny.edu - 19 plugins installed
https://conftemplate.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ -0 plugins installed

Issue not visible on:
https://classtestbmcc.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

In both cases If you publish the page or post, the video works, but this error message may cause confusion for users. Is this an user-generated or browser generated issue or an issue that the commons team can resolve? If user-generated, I could write some documentation to clear up confusion.

I don't know if this is pressing since Looms videos do work, but wanted to flag this irregular behavior.

Hi All,

A Commons user is trying to build out the SPS faculty community site and she is unable to see the "Appearance" section of the dashboard. Screenshot attached.

I was also an admin on this site and am no longer able to access the Dashboard.

I saw in ticket 12157 Colin was also removed as admin on a site. Could these be related issues to role changes?

Hi All,

SPS faculty are redesigning their Faculty Community site: https://spsfaculty.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

They use the tool Ensemble video to make and host videos and would like to pull their videos into their Commons site via the Ensemble Video Responsive Plugin.

Videos are pulled by adding their ensemble URL to the Ensemble Video setting area (screenshot)
https://spsfaculty.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=ensemble_video

Whenever they add their own URL on this page and attempt to update, the url is not saved; it is stripped out and replaced with "demo", as seen in screenshot.

They have reached out to the Ensemble plugin team to check if this issue might be a problem with the plugin but I also told the SPS team that I would check with our dev team. The SPS team said that"If you need more information or need to connect the Commons developers with our Ensemble plugin vendor, let me know. The Ensemble folks would be open to this."

Can we check on possible reasons this url may not be updating or if the commons system is stripping the url upon saving?

Hi All,

A professor who is an admin of a group would like to delete files in the library that she did not upload. Is it possible for a group admin to delete files that other group members have uploaded? If not, can we delete the files for her?

I think this may be related to the decision to forgo the creation of a item-level delete button in the upcoming release. This surfaces an important use case. As more professors use the library, there may be more need to delete individual items (especially the need for group admin to delete member uploads)
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #12183 (Resolved): User cannot access their siteshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/121832019-12-04T18:55:22ZLaurie Hurson

Hi All,

I think this might be related to the issue discussed on the dev call yesterday and mentioned in the ticket #12165. I had some trouble following the specifics but I think I understood that its related to the deletion of users from sites or the wiping of the user roles on a site?

Hi All,

A professor has reported a very weird hypothesis issue. I am not sure if this is a Commons bug or hypothesis bug.

This professor uploaded a PDF (book chapters 5-7) for a course in 2017 link here: https://via.hypothes.is/https://spa114fall171.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-content/blogs.dir/3395/files/2017/09/La-Frontera-5-6-7.pdf

This semester, the professor will be using the same reading (only chapter 5) so she uploaded a shortened version to the media library for her new course: https://via.hypothes.is/https://span2204.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-content/blogs.dir/8302/files/2019/09/Chapter-5.pdf

*to view the readings page on the Span2204 site the pw is Fall2019

The problem: the new chapter 5 pdf pulls in the old comments from the original chapters 5-7 pdf. The pdfs are on different commons sites in different media libraries. It appears that both pdfs are stored in WP-content blogs directory but seem to have different file numbers and names.

I dont think this is a plugin issue since she was using the via hypothesis link, not the plugin to add the annotation layer on these pdfs. Moreover, when I installed the plugin on the Span2204 site, the pdfs cannot be read because the via hypothesis link is added to the pdf url twice.
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #11482 (Resolved): Page Authors on Sites create with templatehttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/114822019-05-21T15:31:04ZLaurie Hurson

Hi All,

When people select a site template (teaching, portfolio) during the creation process, the authors of the pages and posts on the newly created site are Luke, Paul Hebert, and I because we created the original templates. Is there a way to make the Commons Admin account the default author on the pages and posts of new sites that are created using the template?

Hi Boone,

As you know, the past Hypothesis issue was resolved by clarifying that hypothesis only works on Media Library PDFs if the site visibility is listed as public.

I am having issues with Hypothesis not running on PDFs on a publicly visible site here: https://anasar.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

Specifically, the PDFs are on this page are not working: https://anasar.commons.gc.cuny.edu/mat-216-course-materials/ .

I'm not sure if its because the PDFs are so big? Or because they originally had hyperlinks embedded within them (as anchors tags)? I also noticed that the PDF URLs include a /blogs.dir/ element and I'm not sure if that (or some URL issue) is causing an problem?

Sorry if this is a simple front-end-ish fix that I am just missing.

Thanks in advance for you help.
