Redmine CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #10952 (Resolved): Duplicate privacy options in group-site creationhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/109522019-01-14T17:39:23ZLaurie Hurson

During the group creation process, in step #3 when "enable group site" is selected, it creates double privacy option settings for the linked site (screenshot below). A selection cannot be made for both sections, users can only select 1 of the 10 options. So it appears that the selection component is working correctly but the privacy section should only appear once.
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #10700 (Resolved): White screen: page not loading/renderinghttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/107002018-11-13T22:25:59ZLaurie Hurson

All items uploaded to a site media library are visible to all users, not just administrators or the user who uploaded the media.

This is causing issues for professors who want students uploading images (of solutions to math problems) to a private homework post. Students (authors) are able to see other authors media, even though they are unable to see their private posts.

Several faculty participating in the OER Fellows program to run their courses on the Commons did not want to setup a group and therefore wanted to send students emails through their course site. They attempted to use the email users plugin but it appears the plugin is not sending emails correctly.

The plugin has two methods of sending email, to individuals or to groups. Through the Individual send area an Admin can select multiple individuals. Through the Group send area, an Admin can choose a group to send to based on user roles on the site (i.e. Author, Editor, etc). Several issues have been reported from faculty using this plugin.

In the individual area, when several users are selected (using crtl key) only some students receive the email. The faculty members confirm this because once the email is "sent" the plugin reports that the email has been sent to 23 of 25 users. This has happened on the following sites:

https://bmccsoc124.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ -- 23 of 25 student Authors receive email
https://bmccsoc144.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ -- 16 of 25 student Authors received email.
https://soc100munshi.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ -- Students are subscribers, only half received emails

In the group send area, often user role types are missing from the list of groups to send emails to. This has happened on the following sites:

https://bmccsoc091.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ -- Author Role missing from Group area
https://bmccasnmunshi.commons.gc.cuny.edu --Author role missing from group area
https://freequeercuny.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ -- Author role missing from group area
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #9137 (Resolved): Already existing site not appearing to link (couple...https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/91372018-01-29T20:36:38ZLaurie Hurson

Hi Boone,

As you know, the past Hypothesis issue was resolved by clarifying that hypothesis only works on Media Library PDFs if the site visibility is listed as public.

I am having issues with Hypothesis not running on PDFs on a publicly visible site here: https://anasar.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

Specifically, the PDFs are on this page are not working: https://anasar.commons.gc.cuny.edu/mat-216-course-materials/ .

I'm not sure if its because the PDFs are so big? Or because they originally had hyperlinks embedded within them (as anchors tags)? I also noticed that the PDF URLs include a /blogs.dir/ element and I'm not sure if that (or some URL issue) is causing an problem?

Sorry if this is a simple front-end-ish fix that I am just missing.

Hi Commons Team,

A faculty member participating in the CAC OER faculty development program has requested the Ivanhoe theme (http://ivanhoe.scholarslab.org/index.html) to use in his class. Can this theme be added to the Commons?

The theme is built to assign users to "roles" on the site in order to facilitate role-play, textual analysis, and digital storytelling. Out of the box, the theme only allows one user per role. If possible, could the theme be edited to allow users to be assigned to multiple "roles" within the theme/site?

Hi Boone,

I am working with Matt and Luke this semester to support 11 faculty fellows who will be using the Commons in their courses. There is a faculty member whose plans require several plugins to be added to the Commons. I will provide some more details and links below. I know some of these plugins may need to be security tested and/or may not be good for the Commons. If you have any suggested workarounds, feel free to let me know and I can relay these possibilities to the faculty member.

The faculty member is hoping to have students upload their own pictures to each post. (It is a math class so typical text-only posts are difficult.) I know student's uploading pictures can be an issue because they often upload files that are very large and use up all the space allotted to the course site. Blogs@Baruch uses a plugin called "Imsanity" to regulate the size of each photo uploaded. Would it be possible to add this plugin? Since the plugin resizes each image when it is uploaded I realize that there might be some code executed with this and therefore may not meet security reqs on the Commons. Any other work around ideas are welcome.
Imsanity: https://wordpress.org/plugins/imsanity/

This faculty member was also hoping that the default setting for posts would be "private" (rather than students having to select that for each post). I am not aware of a way to set posts to private by default except through a plugin, for example: https://wordpress.org/plugins/private-post-by-default/

Thanks in advance for your insight & help
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #8944 (Resolved): Hypothesis Plugin not working on media library PDFshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/89442017-11-28T16:41:33ZLaurie Hurson

The hypothesis plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/hypothesis/) allows Commons users to annotate pages, posts, and PDFs on the commons site. Several faculty members who will be using the Commons for teaching next spring have expressed interest in using this plugin to annotate pdfs on their course sites.

On each page or post, a menu should/will pop out to allow for highlights and annotations. In the backend, admins can select to have the plugin run on PDFs in the media library. However, it appears that this feature does not work on PDFs uploaded to a Commons site's media library. I have been testing this on https://coursetest.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

I am not sure if this is a commons firewall issue but the plugin doesn't seem to work for PDFs on public or private sites.
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #8746 (Resolved): Site Creation - additional Privacy Settings https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/87462017-09-27T19:57:15ZLaurie Hurson

Additional privacy settings are generated during site creation process when no site domain and site title are entered.

If you leave site domain and title blank or there is an issue with naming conventions (any privacy setting selected) and Click "Create site" you are sent to a new page with error message and must re-do. (screen 1)

However on this new page, new privacy settings are available "Privacy: I would like my site to appear in search engines, and in public listings around this network" [Buttons Yes -- No]" (screen 2)

Additional privacy settings are confusing and unnecessary. Furthermore, if a user then selects "No" (as is the case with "https://unionsfall17.commons.gc.cuny.edu/") the site is rendered unsearchable on the Commons and cannot be found.
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #7653 (Resolved): Reckoning Plugin Edit or Workaroundhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/76532017-02-08T20:50:10ZLaurie Hurson

As reported by a CAC Faculty Fellow:

"he issue I’m having is a conflict regarding user roles between the “Add Users Sidebar Widget” and bbPress. Under Forum Settings for bbPress, if Auto-Role is defined to automatically give registered visitors the participant role in forums, anyone who visits the site is automatically given the role “participant” under both Site Role and Forum Role. So even if I have Add Users configured, it never asks for the password to join the site because everyone is automatically joined as “participant”. This means that they cannot post as author. But if I uncheck “Auto-Role” for bbPress, forums can’t even be seen, let alone participated in.

When I deactivate bbPress, Add Users works as it should, so I think this is a bbPress bug."
