Redmine CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #14249 (Resolved): Loom Embed Issuehttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/142492021-03-29T16:09:36ZLaurie Hurson

Hi all,

Loom videos are working on the Commons but when you embed from the block editor + Firefox, you get an error message in the editor. In Chrome Password-protected videos appear protected in the editor and the correct password does not work. (Screenshots attached)

Important to note, this does not happen across all sites on the Commons.
Issue visible on:
https://8nsshl2021.commons.gc.cuny.edu - 19 plugins installed
https://conftemplate.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ -0 plugins installed

Issue not visible on:
https://classtestbmcc.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

In both cases If you publish the page or post, the video works, but this error message may cause confusion for users. Is this an user-generated or browser generated issue or an issue that the commons team can resolve? If user-generated, I could write some documentation to clear up confusion.

I don't know if this is pressing since Looms videos do work, but wanted to flag this irregular behavior.

Hi All,

An OER Developer at Brooklyn College named Amy Wolfe helps faculty get thier sites up and running on the Commons. She noticed that she is often listed as the instructor because she made the site with the professor but should not be listed as instructor.

How do I change the "Instructor" for these sites so they show up as the actual professor instead of my work account name? When I went on the AC Courses Filter to see Brooklyn College courses I realized that my work name populates the "Instructor" field and I want to change that to the actual instructors name. Can you provide instructions on how to do change this?

I believe she cannot change it manually because the course meta does not automatically\y update in the directory when changed (recalling this from ticket #12448 https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/12448

Should I ask her for a list of courses to change and who the correct professor is so we can change manually?

I will also plan to advise her that, in the future, she should not be logged into her account but into the professor's commons account to make the sites.
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #13632 (Resolved): Deleting Files in Group Libraryhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/136322020-11-30T14:28:26ZLaurie Hurson

Hi All,

A professor who is an admin of a group would like to delete files in the library that she did not upload. Is it possible for a group admin to delete files that other group members have uploaded? If not, can we delete the files for her?

I think this may be related to the decision to forgo the creation of a item-level delete button in the upcoming release. This surfaces an important use case. As more professors use the library, there may be more need to delete individual items (especially the need for group admin to delete member uploads)
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #12484 (Reporter Feedback): Sign up Code for COIL Course starting...https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/124842020-02-27T16:01:55ZLaurie Hurson

Hi All,

I am supporting a faculty member who will be teaching a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) course on the Commons starting in March. In COIL courses, CUNY students take a course in tandem with other international students and they work together and interact online. This professor would like to allow the co-teachers and students from two other universities to join the COIL course site. In total it would be about 30-40 non-cuny teachers and students signing up for the coil course.

Would it be possible to generate a signup code for these COIL folks to join the Commons?
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #12438 (New): Site appearing twicehttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/124382020-02-18T17:31:59ZLaurie Hurson

Instructor's site is appearing twice, see screenshot. Looks like both URLs are the same so I am not sure what is causing the duplication.

Site is: https://introsocmonday.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

When the instructor updates one, both sites update.

On an unrelated note - and apologies for asking here I didn't know if I should make a ticket about seeing another ticket... I am a watcher on ticket 12428 but when i search for it, I cannot find it or see that ticket. How can i get access to private ticket 12428?

Hi all,

I am in touch with two faculty teaching a data viz course this spring. They would like to join the commons to set up their course but do not have cuny email addresses. Can I provide them with a sign up code to allow them to join? If so, how does the code get created?

Hi All,

A faculty member is asking about how much storage space is available for each site and how to know how much space they are using.

Typically, what is the storage limit for each site?

Hi All,

A professor has reported a very weird hypothesis issue. I am not sure if this is a Commons bug or hypothesis bug.

This professor uploaded a PDF (book chapters 5-7) for a course in 2017 link here: https://via.hypothes.is/https://spa114fall171.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-content/blogs.dir/3395/files/2017/09/La-Frontera-5-6-7.pdf

This semester, the professor will be using the same reading (only chapter 5) so she uploaded a shortened version to the media library for her new course: https://via.hypothes.is/https://span2204.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-content/blogs.dir/8302/files/2019/09/Chapter-5.pdf

*to view the readings page on the Span2204 site the pw is Fall2019

The problem: the new chapter 5 pdf pulls in the old comments from the original chapters 5-7 pdf. The pdfs are on different commons sites in different media libraries. It appears that both pdfs are stored in WP-content blogs directory but seem to have different file numbers and names.

I dont think this is a plugin issue since she was using the via hypothesis link, not the plugin to add the annotation layer on these pdfs. Moreover, when I installed the plugin on the Span2204 site, the pdfs cannot be read because the via hypothesis link is added to the pdf url twice.
CUNY Academic Commons - Documentation #11821 (Resolved): Broken link on commons documentation posthttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/118212019-09-04T14:26:36ZLaurie Hurson

A professor pointed out the the link to the "commons basics for teaching" on this news post is broken. https://news.commons.gc.cuny.edu/2018/08/27/teaching-on-the-commons/

The google doc looks like something I created but it may have been copied and then linked because the document is not in my Gdrive trash. I do not have access to this site so I cannot update the link myself. I made a copy with a working link that could replace the broken link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1A5S61oL59EL4krPa_5m-CNtCE37G7TlwzDXcDawUJfM/edit?usp=sharing
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #11674 (Resolved): Thematic theme: Remove/make unavailablehttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/116742019-07-30T16:42:10ZLaurie Hurson

Thematic was last updated in 2013 (https://wordpress.org/themes/thematic/) Can we remove or make it unavailable so no new sites can use?
Hi All,

When people select a site template (teaching, portfolio) during the creation process, the authors of the pages and posts on the newly created site are Luke, Paul Hebert, and I because we created the original templates. Is there a way to make the Commons Admin account the default author on the pages and posts of new sites that are created using the template?

Hi All,

On the TLC blog Visible Pedagogy (https://vp.commons.gc.cuny.edu/) we use Jetpack's blog subscription to give readers the option to sign up to receive new posts via email. It appears the subscription feature is not working since our 40 subscribers did not receive the most recent posts via email.

I recently connected Jetpack to my WP.com account but I think this feature should work without that connection set up. Other than that, I couldn't see anything the back end to indicate why this isn't working. Any ideas what might be causing this bug?
