Redmine CUNY Academic Commons - Support #19366 (New): Commons help email addresshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/193662023-12-04T15:15:33ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Hi Scott -- thanks so much for all of the work you did to help us transition to a new help system. I know I'm being super picky here, but how big of a deal would it be for us to create a new gmail address that is commonshelp@gmail.com as opposed to commonshelpsite@gmail.com?
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #12341 (Abandoned): Commons downhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/123412020-01-30T17:04:38ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Hi Boone,

It looks like the CAC is in maintenance mode (see attached screenshot) are you working on it?

I was privy to another report of caching issues, posted in one of my groups:

I’ve noticed recently that my login will disappear fairly frequently — often when I click a link to another page within the CUNYMathBlog. For example, I notice (on the front page) that there are comments on the top story, so I click the “View Comments” button. On the subsequent page, I am no longer logged in (I noticed this because I wanted to leave a reply comment, but it requested my name/email/etc). I have replicated this on a number of pages (I log in, click on a link to another page on the commons, and it logs me out). I’ve tried it on both Chrome and Firefox on the Mac, and both give the same behaviour.

Given the other reports we've been having of similar behavior, I think we should investigate this further, and perhaps bring on others to consult (Cast Iron Coding?) if we can't solve it. Thoughts?
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #1648 (Resolved): Add Password Protect WordPress Pluginhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/16482012-02-23T02:10:14ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

The JITP project needs to show a draft version of the publication to authors before publication. One idea floated was to add all authors to the Commons and add the to the blog. I think it would be easier and more simple to password-protect the blog.

Here's one plugin that would do it; I'm not attached at all to a particular plugin -- just need the simple password-protection functionality.

Please see related email -- member of the CAT group reports that she hasn't been receiving email notifications even though her status appears to be set to all email. We should take this as a sign of a potentially larger problem, though it's hard to know, at this point where the problem lies, since it could be the email notification system itself perhaps not sending the notifications or the CUNY email system marking them as spam. I'll add André as a watcher in case the latter case is a possibility.

Relatedly, I didn't see a way, with the new WP toolbar/BP profiles, for me to check out her actual email notification settings on the dashboard. How can I do that?
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #1143 (Resolved): Notifications of Old Postshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/11432011-08-26T20:42:58ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Hi All,

At 4:38pm today (ie., a few minutes ago), I received email notifications (all dated today) of posts that had been submitted long ago (one was for a course taught in the Spring 2010 semester). Boone and André, do you have any idea why this might have happened? Were either one of you doing work on the site today?
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #762 (Resolved): Resolve Email Notification Problems with Lehman addr...https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/7622011-05-16T21:21:36ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Hi All,

Michael Ferraro, a faculty member at Lehman and a member of the CUNY Committee on Academic Technology, has spent the last few months trying to convince the members of his department to use the Commons for various purposes. One difficulty he has faced is that email notifications don't seem to be reaching some members of Lehman. This is something that Michael can attest to, as he has not received email notifications from groups to which he is subscribed and he has also witnessed his colleagues attempt to sign up only to find that the confirmation email never arrived.

We know that the system is working on other domains; it seems clear that this is an issue with Lehman's spam filters. Sarah has already been in touch with IT at Lehman, and they have apparently already whitelisted our IP. But something continues to go wrong.

André, can I ask you to take the lead on contacting IT at Lehman to try to work out a solution? We need to find a way to get Commons notifications messages to Lehman recipients.
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #262 (Deferred): Ideas for Improvements to Group Docshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/2622010-06-13T21:17:10ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Having collaborated with a group that used group docs extensively, I have these suggestions for the plugin:

-- ability to search group docs
-- ability to filter by contributor name
-- ability to filter by doc type

Matt
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #260 (Rejected): Possible synergy between Group Docs plugin and F...https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/2602010-06-10T02:36:32ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

As someone who has been uploading a number of documents to a group lately, I notice a problem: when one uploads a document, one often wants there to be some conversation around the document, so that people can provide responses, revisions, etc. If the file is uploaded through group docs, that's not possible -- one has to go start a separate forum topic. If one attaches a file to a forum post, the conversation can happen there, but the doc doesn't get added to the groups archive.

I wonder whether we can address either side of this problem -- either by adding a button to the Documents page that says something like "start a conversation around this document," and that automatically takes the user to a create forum post page with the subject line already filled in with the name of the file, or by having attachments to group posts automatically added to the group docs section.

or both.

what do you think?
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #211 (Resolved): Weird Display of Text on Homepage Loadhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/2112010-05-06T05:21:39ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Ever since the BP upgrade, I've noticed that there is a moment or two, when the homepage first loads, when it looks like all of text on the "hero" slides is layered on top of one another, creating a jumbled look that resolves itself once the page loads. But I'm curious about why this is happening and whether there is anything we can do to change it. Anyone have ideas?
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #172 (Resolved): Forum Notifications not workinghttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/1722010-03-03T23:36:50ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Hi Boone,

The email notifications for at least one of the groups I'm in -- Core 2 Spring 2010 -- haven't worked this week, apparently since Monday. I believe that you are already a member of the group.

Hi Andre,

I was wondering whether you could create two GC email addresses for the Commons:

The first is a general address for the site:

commons@gc.cuny.edu

The second is a little more complicated. I'd like to create a help/support address, but I'm sure that help@gc.cuny.edu is taken. We could go with commonshelp@gc.cuny.edu, but I wanted to check in first to see whether there was any possibility of creating an email address on a subdomain (something like help@commons.gc.cuny.edu).

Thanks in advance for your help. If you have other ideas, please let me know!

Best,

A site member reports that a request to join a group was lost -- the email came, but the site showed no pending requests. When I checked on this, the prospective member had already been added to the group.

I've asked the member to let me know whether this happens again.
