Redmine CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #19990 (Assigned): Issue on About Page when logged in as super adminhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/199902024-03-15T16:21:38ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

I went to update our About page to add Zach to the Commons community team listing and ran into a weird bug, where Laurie's profile photo is shown on a modal overlay. I am experiencing this both on a regular browser window in Chrome and an incognito browser window where I am logged in a super admin. Please see attached screenshot
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #19658 (Assigned): Site Search Not working properlyhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/196582024-02-02T17:14:59ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Hi all -- I wanted to find a site created last year -- https://cunydpi.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

I couldn't remember the URL. I noticed that when I want to Sites and tried to search, neither a search for part of the URL ("cunydpi") nor the site title ("Digital Project Institute") resulted in the site coming up -- instead, no results came up.

It might be worth double-checking other aspects of search (people, groups) to determine whether they are working, as well
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #19366 (New): Commons help email addresshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/193662023-12-04T15:15:33ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Hi Scott -- thanks so much for all of the work you did to help us transition to a new help system. I know I'm being super picky here, but how big of a deal would it be for us to create a new gmail address that is commonshelp@gmail.com as opposed to commonshelpsite@gmail.com?
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #16307 (New): Add brief messaging to accept/decline group membership ...https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/163072022-06-27T22:13:20ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

This is not a huge issue, but when I decline a group membership request, I usually like to write to the person who made the request to tell them why I had to decline. Currently, there is no way to do that other than going to the person's profile and sending a message through it. we might want to add a space for messaging to the decline action, so that people receive the decline notification along with a rationale. But maybe this is too small an edge case to be worth of development -- I'd guess this happens only a few times a year
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #15604 (Assigned): Restructure Commons Group Digest Email Messageshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/156042022-03-11T20:56:34ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

I'd like to suggest that we review and restructure the digest emails. Currently, they include the full-text of the messages, one after the other. I think we should start off the message with a list of subject lines, each of which links to the actual message on the Commons. That will allow people to see, at a glance, the full set of messages they've missed rather than having to comb through a thicket of text to find each new message in a long email.

There may be other things we want to do eventually, like list tags. or, perhaps (and separately) allow people to subscribe only to specific tag-related messages (ie, as a member of a group, only receiving email notifications of a specific tag, like "Jobs"
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #13949 (New): Continued debugging of runaway MySQL connectionshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/139492021-02-07T00:47:10ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Hi Boone,

FYI -- there were MySQL restart alerts at 4:11pm today.
Luke and I are meeting with someone from Brooklyn College, who brought up a request for wiki or wiki-like functionality on the CAC. This is the third or fourth such request I've heard in the last week. It may very well be motivated by the closing of Wikispaces, which was used often by faculty. (and we know that's what motivated the CUNY Office of Institutional Research to use the Commons).

I am NOT suggesting that we re-start or re-integrate MediaWiki into the CAC. But I am curious what we can tell people who want to use the Commons but are hoping to have wiki-like functionality. Can we use this ticket to explore possible lines of advice? I know that we have one wiki plugin on the CAC, but I think it requires a wiki to be hosted elsewhere and just displays the content on a CAC blog.

I've added a bunch of members of the team to this ticket for comment.
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #8901 (Assigned): Theme analysis for accessibility https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/89012017-11-10T17:22:26ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Hi All

I wanted to bring up a use case and see what functionality exists to cover it and what we might want to build.

The situation: a bunch of discrete initiatives/offices at the GC -- GC Digital Initiatives, the Career Center the Teaching and Learning Center, the Library -- are endeavoring to build a shared calendar to collect notices of workshops offered across the GC. We have a group for that here -- http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/groups/gc-events-and-workshops/

The new embed feature will be great, as it will allow any of these groups to embed the central group calendar on one of their sites.

However, groups may not want to show all events for all groups, which could get unwieldy. Obviously, they can post events to multiple groups and embed two calendars -- one for their own unit, and one for the larger collective group.

What I'm wondering is if there is a way for us to have an interface that allows one to quickly show/hide calendars. I'm thinking of something like the gcal interface, where one can click on a calendar name to hide it from the calendar. This would allow a group to embed a single calendar on a page but to give use the option of seeing, say, events from their unit or events from the collective calendar with one click.

Please let me know what you think and/or whether any of this is unclear. I've cc'ed Luke, who is involved in this effort.
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #4980 (Assigned): CAC Featured Content -- Adding Randomizationhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/49802015-12-07T16:33:40ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

I'm using the CAC Featured Content Plugin on NYCDH (nycdh.org), which reminded me that when one chooses a featured member or group, the selection is not randomized -- one has to enter a specific member/group. It would be much better to have the groups/members randomized. Can you please let me know how much development would be involved in adding that feature?
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #4903 (Assigned): Improving visual appearance of event calendarshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/49032015-11-14T21:52:27ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Hi Sam,

Are there changes in layout/color/design/alignment/sizing that you can suggest to improve the appearance of events calendars that contain multiple events on a single day? Please see the attached screenshot and this link - http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/groups/gc-events-and-workshops/events/ - for an example. It looks pretty crowded to me and also hard to even tell that there are multiple events in a single box. We might look to how GCal handles this for guidance
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #4238 (Assigned): Copy Events to Other Groups?https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/42382015-06-29T20:20:15ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

I'm in a group -- the CUNY Games Network -- where an event has been created. That's great, but I'd like to copy it over to some of the other groups I'm in -- in this case, the CUNY Digital Humanities Initiative. Right now, I think that's not possible, at least for normal users (as an admin, I can edit the event and add another group, but my guess is that that is an admin privilege.

I can't remember whether we considered this before or not.
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #364 (New): Bulletin Boardhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/3642010-10-06T03:58:00ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Hi All,

I've had a few people contact me to ask about where they might post announcements. I know we've talked about something like this in the past, but here are a few ideas:

1. A general area where people could post announcements. We could have a checkbox on sign up that asks people whether they want to subscribe by email
2. A craigslist type bulletin board -- perhaps done through a group, but is access more through the forum interface than through a group interface
3. A general group for announcements.

What do you all think? I think that, generally, it should be an easy to use space that allows opt-in subscriptions.
