CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #19550 (Assigned): A few issues/questions around CV editor

Hi All -- I just made some updates to my CV, which worked well! I have some questions, though:

1. I added a cover image and now want to remove it. However, I'm unable to get my cursor focus to be on the modal, so I can't scroll to see the options to remove the cover image. When I scroll, the background of the page moves, but I can't adjust the modal to the point where I can see any options. Screenshot attached and I can create a video if needed

2. after I updated my CV (I had one in the system previously), many content blocks were noted as problematic and I was asked to try to attempt recovery. Is this expected behavior? Screenshot attached.

Thank you!

Hi Scott -- thanks so much for all of the work you did to help us transition to a new help system. I know I'm being super picky here, but how big of a deal would it be for us to create a new gmail address that is commonshelp@gmail.com as opposed to commonshelpsite@gmail.com?

This is not a huge issue, but when I decline a group membership request, I usually like to write to the person who made the request to tell them why I had to decline. Currently, there is no way to do that other than going to the person's profile and sending a message through it. we might want to add a space for messaging to the decline action, so that people receive the decline notification along with a rationale. But maybe this is too small an edge case to be worth of development -- I'd guess this happens only a few times a year

CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #3354 (Assigned): Allow Group Download of Multiple Selected Files

Now that we have the "download all" feature going, I'm wondering whether we should allow members to download a group of selected files at once. The use case here is a group with a large number of files -- too many to download all -- where someone wants to download multiple files together instead of downloading each one individually

UX involved here regarding the look/function of the selectors. Assigning to Chris for first thoughts.

CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #3308 (Assigned): Allow members to rescind group invitations

Per related tickets 3306 and 3307, we should give members a way to rescind group invitations that were sent in error. I would suggest that this feature trigger an email notification to the user in question alerting the member that the group invitation has been cancelled.

Wondering whether we can add an indent/outdent buttons to the Profile editing interface. For a test use case, see the blurb under DHDebates on my profile in the Publications area: http://cuny.is/mkgold

CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #3042 (Assigned): Browsing member interests

Starting a new ticket here related to http://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/2736

It used to be that members could create links around terms of interest in their profiles that, when clicked, would lead to the member directory and show everyone else who shared those interests. This was important for our project because it helped fulfill our goal of connecting people across campuses who had shared interests.

Now that we have disabled auto-linking of interests from the profile page (with the logic that it is a presentational, outward-facing page rather than one that is network-focused), we should think about how to surface network connections among members. I have a few ideas in mind:

1. Make the academic interests on the people directory ( http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/members/ ) linkable, so that people could search through and find connections;

2. Decide that the search box for academic interests on the people directory accomplishes this well enough, and leave things alone, perhaps with some minor upgrades (like autocomplete in the search box)

3. Consider creating some other representation of member interests, like a weighted word cloud.

The basic issue that this all brings up is central to the mission of the Commons: how do we connect people who have shared interests?

I would appreciate input especially from Boone, Micki, and Chris on this, but all team members should comment!!

CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #2523 (Assigned): Allow Users to Upload Images to BP Docs

I've taken a look at your github install for BP Docs and know this has already been suggested, but I wonder how much development time would be involved in creating functionality that would allow users to upload images directly to BP docs rather than including them only through image tags (which requires them to be first uploaded elsewhere). It does seem like it would be useful functionality, though I'll leave it to you to prioritize

I'm meeting with Chris and Michael, and they suggested we look into Big Blue Button which is an open-source videoconferencing tool. We started to wonder whether it might be integrated into BuddyPress groups so that groups could easily create video conferences among group members.

It looks like there is already a WordPress plugin to provide integration, but I don't think that one has been created for BuddyPress. What do you think about looking into writing that plugin? Might be very cool!

Michael and Chris, by the way, say that Joe Ugoretz uses this and can comment upon it.

Since there might be some server demands involved, I've added André as a watcher (along with Chris and Michael)

Hi All,

I've had a few people contact me to ask about where they might post announcements. I know we've talked about something like this in the past, but here are a few ideas:

1. A general area where people could post announcements. We could have a checkbox on sign up that asks people whether they want to subscribe by email
2. A craigslist type bulletin board -- perhaps done through a group, but is access more through the forum interface than through a group interface
3. A general group for announcements.

What do you all think? I think that, generally, it should be an easy to use space that allows opt-in subscriptions.
