Redmine CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #10658 (Resolved): Condense sitewide footer https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/106582018-11-04T17:00:42ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Perhaps this should wait for our redesign, but in the interest of improving the site in the meantime, I wonder if there are things we can do to condense the sitewide footer that shows up on all Commons blogs. I think it would be better if it took up less vertical space.
Hi All,

I noticed some responsiveness issues when viewing my Commons profile on my mobile phone (an iPhone). Here is what I noted:

-- areas of overlapping content
-- when one starts to scroll and the header snaps up, there are two issues -- 1. it snaps up before one can view all of the text in the header; and 2. In the snapped-up state (sorry -- that's probably not that right term, but I don't know what is), the header takes up more room than it should.

Please see attached screenshots. I know we are hoping to do a redesign, but I'm hoping that we can address at least a few of these issues in the short term before then.
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #6298 (Assigned): Examine data from surveyhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/62982016-10-14T16:16:40ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Hi Sam,

Are there changes in layout/color/design/alignment/sizing that you can suggest to improve the appearance of events calendars that contain multiple events on a single day? Please see the attached screenshot and this link - http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/groups/gc-events-and-workshops/events/ - for an example. It looks pretty crowded to me and also hard to even tell that there are multiple events in a single box. We might look to how GCal handles this for guidance
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #4404 (Assigned): Change color of permissions info on portfolio...https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/44042015-08-08T12:31:35ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Right now, when users go to edit their portfolios, information about who can see that info appears in red (see attached screenshot). Since this info suggests something that the people highlighted CAN see, I think it should be green rather than red. Sam, do you agree?

Hi All,

When one posts a forum post to multiple groups, there is no indication -- either on the forum or the notification -- that the post was sent to multiple groups. In some ways, this is fine, but it's weird, perhaps, that the author who posted the message receives absolutely no notification that the message was posted to multiple groups (since the email notification system only sends out the notification of the group in which the message was initially posted).

In my groups, I find the forum link to be the single most important link in the group, as it is where group discussions take place. Right now, we have it second from the top in the group sidebar nav, just below home. I find that my eye goes to the middle of that list of links, so that Files and Docs are the most visible to me; I would suggest that we move the forum link down to make it more visible.

Hi All,

I'm finding the new forums a bit hard on the eyes; the light background and closely clustered links make the readability a bit rough. Chris and Samantha, can you please take a look and let me know whether you have small tweaks? Thanks. Screenshot attached. Also please let me know whether you don't agree that there is a readability issue.
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #3346 (Resolved): Notification page option orderinghttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/33462014-07-24T14:12:59ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Just looking at my notification settings and I noticed that they are not laid out consistently. The first Yes/No options have Yes on the left and No on the right. But then, when you get to Group Notifications, the Yes option (All Email) is on the right and the No option (No email) is on the left. I realize they are not exactly the same, but the similarity (and the use of "no" in "no email") is similar enough that I think we should fix this. Please see the attached screenshot

I would suggest changing the order of the Yes/No options so that Yes appears on the right and No appears on the left.

Assigning to Chris for a UX opinion. Chris, after you've weighed in, please assign to Boone.
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #3178 (Resolved): Create ability to repost forums posts to othe...https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/31782014-04-25T16:11:45ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

In our meeting today, we discussed issue 575, which involved a user who wanted to duplicate forum comments to other forums.

We don't think that there is a need for that, but we did discuss a few other use cases:

1. A person wants to post something to multiple groups. With a new feature, a person could create one post and then select other groups (which he/she is already a part of) and have the post posted to those other groups, as well -- ie., creating duplicate posts on multiple forums. There is a possibility that could be used for spam, but we trust our user base and think that this wouldn't be abused.

2. Michael discussed the possibility of having readers of posts repost forum posts to other groups, almost like a twitter retweet. We're thinking also of tumblr posts -- it would be good for people to be able to append a comment when reposting to another groups. You should only be able to post public group to public group or public group to private group. As on twitter, it would be useful for members to be able to turn off notifications of repostings if they didn't want to see them on a group-by-group basis.

There are multiple ways in which these features would be useful.
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #3176 (Resolved): Consolidate Doc/File/Forum Attachment interfacehttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/31762014-04-25T15:52:13ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

I think that we should look into having a single navigation tab that consolidates views of BP Docs, uploaded files, and discussion forum attachments.
At our meeting yesterday, we heard a suggestion, which was seconded, that it might be useful to create an automated nudge to get people to fill out their profile information. This will be useful to individual members looking to find others to connect to, and it will also benefit our system as a whole by increasing its importance as a data hub and by making our faceted searches more robust.

We should look at how LinkedIn does this (I think they say something like, "you have filled out 50% of your profile info; fill out the rest!") and also, of course, give people a dismiss option that says something like "Never show me this notification again."
