Redmine CUNY Academic Commons - Support #15204 (Resolved): PDF export replaces Polish letter "ł" with "?"https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/152042022-01-19T19:35:26Zscott vothscott.voth@verizon.net

In https://europeanstages.org/2021/11/23/in-memoriam-mieczyslaw-janowski-1935-2021/ there is a special character (the sixteenth letter in the Polish alphabet) that display fine on the post, but when the content is downloaded to a PDF, that letter is changed to a "?". I tried switching the font of the printer friendly file, but that didn't help. I also used another PDF plugin but that didn't work either. the letter is: ł. Is there any special encoding for this?
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #14847 (Resolved): JetPack Issue displaying simple imageshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/148472021-10-07T18:11:49Zscott vothscott.voth@verizon.net

on Jeff Allred's site (https://dh700fa21.commons.gc.cuny.edu/) he had a number of plugins (see attached) installed. When he tried to add an image to a page using the block editor, the image looked good in the editor, but did not display on the actual page. It was just an empty box. I noticed that Jetpack open graph tags were being used (see other attachment), and that the image url was being prepended with "i1.wp.com/". I asked him to disable JetPack, and everything now works fine.

Do you think there is an incompatibility with one of the other plugins?
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #14250 (Resolved): migrate new site to old urlhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/142502021-03-29T21:54:13Zscott vothscott.voth@verizon.net

The John Jay MPA Program has a new site (https://mpaprogram.commons.gc.cuny.edu/) and would like to switch its url to the old site with the familiar URL -> https://jjcmpa.commons.gc.cuny.edu/. If they deleted the old site, could they then clone the site to the old URL? Would that URL be available, even though it was previously used. Is there a better way?
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #13755 (Resolved): Deprecate Twenty Ten and Twenty Eleven themeshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/137552020-12-26T22:05:52Zscott vothscott.voth@verizon.net

I don't think we should encourage the use of 2010 and 2011 themes since they have limited responsive functionality.
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #13716 (Resolved): Events sidebar issue with segalcenter.orghttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/137162020-12-17T19:08:12Zscott vothscott.voth@verizon.net

Page where the problem exists: https://thesegalcenter.commons.gc.cuny.edu/events/

Basic issue: Events sidebar shows extraneous content before the content is should show.

Andie Lerner writes:

"The issue began last Friday.

However, what happened is that the public view (segalcenter.org) was unreachable with an error message reading "The CUNY Academic Commons is experiencing issues" and "Under Maintenance" listed on the tab. I contacted Marilyn initially confirming whether or not this was only with my Commons site or if it was happening widespread? It was at this point that she contacted dev and gave me access, and the site began working again. From her point of view nobody had used the site since 2018, however I have been logging in to the commons through our admin account and adding events since spring. After this step, I logged in and readied the MESTC theme, since it was no longer applied to the site, and the sidebar became what it is now. I know that was long winded, but I wanted to give you a complete view of what happened to explain the more minute issue."

I tried a long time to fix the sidebar issue on the events page, but no luck. Attached please see current display. The content highlighted in red should not appear. The plugin "Custom Sidebars" is being used, but I can't figure out how the desired content is getting into the sidebar. I think the undesired content comes from the "Primary aside."

I went to the internet archive to see what the Events page should look like. See Attached.

I do see this notice: "Custom Sidebars Notice
Starting from version 5.7, WordPress will be using Gutenberg's block-based Widget Screen. Custom Sidebars is not compatible due to the fact that once Full Site Editing is in place, such plugins will not be required anymore. Therefore Custom Sidebars has been discontinued. If you have existing sidebars that you need to modify, you can switch back to a legacy Widgets screen by adding remove_theme_support( 'widgets-block-editor' ); in your theme's functions.php file. You can read more about this here. "

But it seems it should still work with the theme.
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #13407 (Resolved): Remove domain mapping for sexgenlab.orghttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/134072020-09-29T20:43:11Zscott vothscott.voth@verizon.net

Kim has created a new site that is not hosted on the Commons. Please remove the domain mapping on our side.
Sissel McCarthy has wordpress.com as her domain provider, and she has successfully mapped her site to the Commons using an A record. However, her www. subdomain throws a security error (doesn't have a SSL certificate). I don't see anywhere in Wordpress.com that allows you to redirect from www.newsliteracymatters.com to newsliteracymatters.com. I see documentation that wordpress.com automatically redirects www. to its base domain name, but that is not happening, I guess because of the "A" record she set up.

see - https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/

She feels a lot of people are scared away from her site when they see the error thrown on the www. subdomain. Any suggestions?
CUNY Academic Commons - Documentation #12392 (New): Updates to Common Commons Questions on Help Pagehttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/123922020-02-10T21:28:23Zscott vothscott.voth@verizon.net

In our last community meeting we spoke of updating the questions on the Front Page of our Help site. I made a bunch of changes/additions here: https://help.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

I know that this is part of the larger issue, but I notice that once logged into the Commons, there is no way to access the Home page. If we use this page to announce planned outages, feature new releases, groups, and sites, it won't be accessible to members who just have cookies that directly log them in and go to "My Commons."

Should we perhaps have "Home" on the main navigation, to the left of "My Commons"and maybe remove "Papers"?
CUNY Academic Commons - Documentation #11495 (Resolved): New Member Intro Pagehttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/114952019-05-28T22:21:14Zscott vothscott.voth@verizon.net

The new member intro page - https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/intro/ - is out of date, both in content and links.

Do we want to first fix the links, and then work on the content - the biggest item being the "Take The Tour" which Sarah Morgano created 4 years ago, at least?

I can work on a draft video script to replace the out-dated "Take the Tour" video if you want. That might be a good way to get the ball rolling on this collaborative effort.
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #11394 (Rejected): Help Hyperlink and Help homepagehttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/113942019-04-23T21:18:38Zscott vothscott.voth@verizon.netCUNY Academic Commons - Publicity #11393 (Abandoned): After 1.15 release, ceate a hero slide and ...https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/113932019-04-23T20:46:28Zscott vothscott.voth@verizon.net

Hi - I was doing a presentation for the Philanthropy Center Fellows today, and saw several times that the Groups tab and the Sites tab, when clicked, do not display what I am used to seeing. They just display the "Create a Site" and "Create a Group" buttons. In one instance, I was looking over the shoulder of a new member, and asked her to go back out to the home page and re-click the group tab and that seemed to fix the issue. But even I had the same experience, using the computer at the GC library. I have never had this issue before - just wondering if we have issues with different devices/connections.

Again - I see no problems when I use my own computer...
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #7722 (Abandoned): Password Reset Issueshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/77222017-02-25T16:09:00Zscott vothscott.voth@verizon.net

I was at Lehman yesterday, doing outreach, and two Commons members needed to reset their passwords. Both had the same issue - the email sent to them had two url links - the first one was underlined, so they automatically clicked on that one, and it just returned them to the Commons Home page. The second url was actually the correct one. It was not underlined and was not clickable. They had to cut and paste it into the browser in order to reset their password.
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #2849 (Duplicate): User Experience - Changing Avatarhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/28492013-10-27T16:18:36Zscott vothscott.voth@verizon.net

I got a support question via email a couple days from a member who was confused about how to change her avatar. She was clicking on the "Change Avatar" hyperlink under her existing avatar, but reported that nothing was happening. I checked, and noticed that it is a little confusing, since nothing on the screen seems to change. You have to scroll down to find the dialog that pertains to changing the avatar. Might be something to think about when/if we are making any stylistic changes to the user profile screen.
