Redmine CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #20062 (Staged for Production Release): Quick Edit Feature Resets Pos...https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/200622024-03-26T23:03:59ZZachary Muhlbauer

When I use the Quick Edit option to make changes to an existing post, the author of the post automatically resets to the first individual listed in the site's user list, regardless of who the original author was.

I replicated the issue in Firefox and Safari as well as across multiple themes. I also spoke with another instructor and confirmed that the Quick Edit option resets post authorship for them, too.

It's a nasty little bug if only because determining the original author of certain posts can be tricky and time-consuming when there isn't an available edit history for the post.
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #19591 (Reporter Feedback): sidebar problem for course sitehttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/195912024-01-24T18:38:31ZMarilyn WeberMweber@gc.cuny.edu

From a WS ticket:

I am currently facing an issue while attempting to edit the sidebar to display the course information on my page: https://kcccebioblitz.commons.gc.cuny.edu/. Despite my efforts to modify the content, the sidebar editing option seems to be inaccessible, and I can’t update the preset from my Dashboard.
To provide further context, I have attached an image illustrating the specific area of concern. Unfortunately, I am unable to locate the sidebar editing feature within the editing interface.
I would greatly appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter. If there are specific steps or tools, I need to use to access the sidebar editing options, kindly guide me through the process.
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #18521 (Reporter Feedback): Migrating English Site to CUNY Commonshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/185212023-07-31T14:01:44ZLaurie Hurson

Hi All,

A message from a new user about migrating a site to the Commons:

"I've read your documentation on importing a wordpress site via XML, but given the large volume of content (like archive blog posts with featured >images and galleries) and especially the high degree of customization to the theme and css, that option doesn't seem very promising.

The current department site is here:
https://english.ccny.cuny.edu/

Are there any backup or migration plugins that can run on CUNY Commons?"

Are we able to upload a custom theme they may be using to help with the re-build?

Is there a reason that XML export/import might not work here? Is there an alternative, or should I suggest the XML process only?

I found a few possible back up plugins - do any of these look reasonable for use on the Commons?

Hi All,

As you may or may not know, CUNY has been transitioning all faculty, staff, and students to Microsoft Office 365 cloud. So instead of having Microsoft Office software, everyone now gets these tools and saves docs etc in the 365 cloud.

Someone in a training asked about embedding the Live cloud-hosted word docs into a commons site, similar to how Google docs works, so that when they update their Word doc the commons embed is also updated. This is different from how Word and the Commons works now, where faculty have to upload the static document.

Some examples of sharing links from a test cloud-hosted word doc:

Hi Commons Team,

(Marilyn says "Please open up a ticket in Redmine about this.")

We have an important need for a website to be displayed in Avenir font, due to branding reasons for a DOE-funded center. The site was moved over from Wix, where Avenir was a built-in option.

We’re creating the Commons site in Canvas, which has no option for Avenir that we can see.

Is it possible that there is an option to add code to change the site’s font to Avenir? Or, are there any themes on the Commons that have Avenir font built in or allow code to allow it? Montserrat, the recommended alternative via Google fonts, looks noticeably different from our years of existing/already-distributed materials, which we don't have a way to go back in time and change. This includes our banner and logo, which we will have to change to match our (already-designed) site.

Is there anything we can do?
Many thanks!
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #17018 (Reporter Feedback): Analytics for Profile Fields & Feat...https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/170182022-10-12T21:20:03ZSara Cannon

We hope to release an annual report soon getting back on our academic-year annual schedule that was disrupted during Covid. This one should cover two years, 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. To that end, can I ask for:

- Total number of Sites and Groups that we had on June 1st of 2021 and also of 2022

- Similar to #16355 from last month, overall total and by-role total of Members that joined from 6/1/20 to 5/31/21 and 6/1/21 to 5/31/22 (and understood that users can have more than one role)

- Also building off of #16355, I'd like to track all Courses over time since we launched Courses. In that prior ticket you provided this:

[totals] => Array
(
[Summer 2021] => 38
[Fall 2021] => 271
[Spring 2022] => 199
[Summer 2022] => 24
)

Would it be possible to provide the same for each semester from Fall 2018 (when I believe Courses began) to Fall 2022? And if I added each semester up, would I get (at least roughly) to the total number of Courses right now? In #12673 I asked for month by month course creation, but I think that's probably too granular at this stage for the Courses era.

We also looked at Courses in #13402 and I could pull numbers from there but I'm wondering if it's best to do a fresh query across all semesters since it's been a while since we looked at this, then it'll be easier to update in subsequent years.

Syelle Graves reports:

We have a hopefully-simple question about a Gravity form that uses the post creation option on this site https://weauthors.commons.gc.cuny.edu/category/spanish/

The problem is that even though we have the submitted image set to be the featured image of the post draft, the image never appears in the post itself: https://weauthors.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/admin.php?page=gf_edit_forms&id=1 (https://weauthors.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/admin.php?page=gf_edit_forms&id=1)

I have ignored this for some time, because on the BMCC OL, where I also work, we have observed this to be a bug in this same theme that we are using here on the Commons site (Customizr).

However, perhaps your team has a solve? Is there any way to get the image to show in the post tile without us adding it manually? We are doing a large-scale project of CUNY student writing, and it would be a huge benefit to our instructors who have to publish hundreds of student submissions by hand as they come in.

Many thanks!

I'd like to do a review over the next few releases of blacklisted plugins. These are plugins that are unavailable on Dashboard > Plugins, but may still be running on existing sites.
Report from a community member:

I wanted to let you know that I just did a quick google search of "CUNY Commons" and I was surprised to see that the first entry in the search list was as follows:

CUNY Academic Commons
https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/
CUNY Academic Commons
Originally a vibrant place to share resources, the Commons Wiki isn't used much any more.
I am not sure how it got there but it is a disservice to your work. I don't know if you have a tech person who can trace this down.

I usually use Duck Duck Go myself, but I just checked Google and had slightly different -- but still potentially problematic -- results, in that the main listing seemed to show info from our slider rather than a general description of the site. Screenshot attached
