Redmine CUNY Academic Commons - Support #19680 (New): JetPack https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/196802024-02-05T18:19:08ZMarilyn WeberMweber@gc.cuny.edu

My name is Malkah, and I am a writing consultant at the Graduate Center's Writing Center. We are in the process of creating a newsletter, which we will send to our mailing list, and we would like to use JetPack since it is already linked to our CUNY Commons website.

Unfortunately, as our mailing list exceeds 100 recipients, we cannot use the free version of JetPack. I am writing to inquire if

1. CUNY has a paid subscription to JetPack, which we can access.
2. If CUNY does not have a paid subscription to JetPack, can we at the Writing Center purchase this subscription and still have JetPack linked to our CUNY Commons website?

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi all,

I am working with a professor on this site:

https://urb613sp24.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

The students created draft posts last night but it appears that none of the posts were private by default even though the plugin is running on the site.

https://urb613sp24.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/edit.php

I am not sure if the plugin is depricated with new versions of Wordpress? I created a new post to test and it is created as public and when I go to change the visibility I am prompted "Would you like to privately publish this post now?" which seems like a different workflow for privatizing posts compared to the past.
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #18898 (Reporter Feedback): issue with embedded maps linkshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/188982023-09-24T15:26:24ZMarilyn WeberMweber@gc.cuny.edu

Hello Marilyn,

The GC Music Program’s Commons website has an issue with embedded maps links. Here’s an example post with the issue:

https://gcmusic.commons.gc.cuny.edu/events/concert-the-rhythm-method-string-quartet/

When you scroll down to "Maps," it says "This page can't load Google maps correctly." There's an option to select "Do you own this website?" which has information about errors, but I don't know if I can fix that myself.

Could you help me in fixing this issue? It occurs for all event posts on the site.

Thank you,
Joseph Vaz

Hi Joseph!

Thanks so much for bearing with my technological ignorance! Your Twitter ("X") posts look great - thanks for doing that! If you know to whom I could direct the question about maps not loading properly on the GC Music Commons event listings, that would be great! Here's a post as an example:

Hi All,

A user is trying to use the hyper audio plugin and soundcloud audio links. They are experiencing issues with this plugin and included the attached screenshot) (waiting for more info)

I also test this plugin with soundcloud audio here: https://classtestbmcc.commons.gc.cuny.edu/hyperaudio-test/

I am unable to make the audio play when trying to use the plugin with Soundcloud, and I am unable to make a YouTube video play because it required the iframe embed code, which is stripped out.

Would it be possible to make this plugin functional with Soundcloud audio and YouTube videos? This plugin would be great for accessibility purposes and adding transcripts to audio and video

Hi All,

I have an inquiry from a professor about a resolution issue on this site: https://fonetica.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

The site appears fine at first but then the Commons footers loads over most of the site. I think this might be a theme issue but don't want to un-install and reset the design of the site. Are you able to identify if this is a bug with the "Shuttershot" theme without un-installing? (if not that's fine). If it is a bug with the theme, can it be resolved?

I recognize that this is a pretty old theme so if not worth patching the bug, perhaps I need to source a newer similar theme for activation on the Commons. And even if we can resolve the bug, maybe we turn this theme off as an option for new sites?

(on another note, i think this warrants a review of our 65 themes, which i can plan to get to during the fall semester)

Hi All,

A professor reported that she is unable to embed an H5P iframe on her site. Her email is below:

"I talked to you yesterday at CSI's OER Symposium about my issue embedding tutorials into my course. My course on commons is: https://lib102.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ (I am still in the process of designing it).

The issue is I am not allowed to save any embedded tutorials on my course site. The tutorials I tried to embed are from this OER website, plus some tutorials I am creating: https://owl.excelsior.edu/plagiarism/plagiarism-how-much-do-you-know/

I tried embedding on my own wordpress website: http://judyxiao.com/ and I had no issues."

I know we have been been doing some mild exploring of H5P but that it is not yet available on the Commons. Could we allow professors to embed h5p iframes from another source as a workaround since the h5p libraries (which I think presented security isues) are not hosted on the Commons? I also remember that the Commons might strip out iFrames when saving a page for security reasons but is there a way to allow professors to embed h5p iframes?
AD/O365 Transition from NonMatric to Matriculated Students - Feature #12062 (In Progress): creat...https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/120622019-11-12T20:50:21ZEmilio RodriguezCUNY Academic Commons - Bug #11649 (In Progress): CC license displayed on every pagehttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/116492019-07-18T16:03:33ZGina Cherry

As part of my Theme Assessment (https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/7828), I am identifying and suggesting new themes for the Commons to adopt.

In this thread, I am suggesting recently updated themes found in the WordPress.org repository that are built off of Google's Material Design: https://material.io/guidelines/
To note, all of these themes are responsive, and Material Design thoughtfully approaches accessibility, which Luke wanted me to prioritize: https://material.io/guidelines/usability/accessibility.html

The first definite suggestion is Materialize, which DH scholar Anastasia Salter has adopted for a web project, as she discusses here: http://www.chronicle.com/blogs/profhacker/thinking-digital-with-external-review-materials/64127
Here's the theme info: https://wordpress.org/themes/materialize/

Some other potential suggestions:
Teslata https://wordpress.org/themes/teslata/
Sirius Lite https://wordpress.org/themes/sirius-lite/
SEO WP https://wordpress.org/themes/seo-wp/
CPMmagz https://wordpress.org/themes/cpmmagz/
Hestia https://wordpress.org/themes/hestia/
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #4986 (Assigned): Prepare documentation for Zendesk re web widgethttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/49862015-12-07T19:35:30ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

I was wondering if we want to have the CBOX theme as a choice for members on the Commons. Not sure if this would cause any difficulties, since it is a BP theme...
I'd like to make the process of choosing themes easier for our bloggers. Is there a way that we could mark/tag some themes as "featured" and then offer bloggers the chance to choose from them instead of having to slog through the entire repository?
