Redmine CUNY Academic Commons - Support #18133 (Hold): Elementor builder problemhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/181332023-04-28T14:45:02ZMarilyn WeberMweber@gc.cuny.edu

From Indranil Choudhury, Via ZendesK:

I'm working with CITE CUNY<https://computinged.commons.gc.cuny.edu/> and I've encountered a few issues that I haven't had luck solving. [note from Marilyn - first issue is a separate ticket]

2. When using the Elementor builder with the Elementor Hello theme, when I try to apply a site kit, I get an error. This seems to be a common issue, and the solution is outlined here<https://element.how/elementor-kit-something-went-wrong/>, but I don't think I can access those settings.
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #17655 (New): Broken Link Checker improperly scanning unpublished postshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/176552023-02-13T18:03:17ZBoone Gorgesboone@gorg.es

Strange update: One of my sites is now sending me e-mail alerts for broken links found in unpublished pages, even though I have the settings set not to check page drafts. I apologize for complaining about the opposite problem, but the system continues to regenerate these emails, so each time I receive the erroneous email, I think that there are new links I need to fix. (I have these links in an unpublished page because I need to store former links/link history there). If this unexpected behavior is something you could look into at some point, I would really appreciate it--and perhaps this info will help with the whole puzzle?

CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #16540 (Reporter Feedback): Resolution Size Issue with Shuttershot themehttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/165402022-07-27T16:14:04ZLaurie Hurson

Hi All,

I have an inquiry from a professor about a resolution issue on this site: https://fonetica.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

The site appears fine at first but then the Commons footers loads over most of the site. I think this might be a theme issue but don't want to un-install and reset the design of the site. Are you able to identify if this is a bug with the "Shuttershot" theme without un-installing? (if not that's fine). If it is a bug with the theme, can it be resolved?

I recognize that this is a pretty old theme so if not worth patching the bug, perhaps I need to source a newer similar theme for activation on the Commons. And even if we can resolve the bug, maybe we turn this theme off as an option for new sites?

(on another note, i think this warrants a review of our 65 themes, which i can plan to get to during the fall semester)

I have retested following the release and there are still some issues:

the footer is does not display correctly

"Create A New Doc" goes to create a new group/site/group+site (Special Pages)

Site Home goes to CAC Homepage (Special Pages)

Recently Active button shows all Commons members who are recently active

Who is Online shows all Commons members who are online

If you change the theme to a non commentpress theme, and try to change back, you can only change to Comment Default theme, not the Modern theme (you have to deactivate plugin and reactivate to get to the Modern theme again)

Most of these are not terribly serious, and the plugin still works, but it would be nice to get them fixed in the future, when there is time.
AD/O365 Transition from NonMatric to Matriculated Students - Feature #12062 (In Progress): creat...https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/120622019-11-12T20:50:21ZEmilio RodriguezCUNY Academic Commons - Bug #11649 (In Progress): CC license displayed on every pagehttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/116492019-07-18T16:03:33ZGina Cherry

Two participants in the OER Faculty Fellows program have reported being confused why so many "Participants" users are registered on their sites.

Each of those faculty members is using the BBPress plugin, and our hypothesis is that the auto-role setting at wp-admin/options-general.php?page=bbpress, which is automatically selected, is adding anyone who visits the site as a participant.

This site, for instance, has nearly 300 participants -- https://freequeercuny.commons.gc.cuny.edu/. Here is one of the other sites: https://bmccsoc091.commons.gc.cuny.edu/.

We'd like to:

1. verify that it is the act of visiting a site that is adding someone as a participant, or whether there might be another issue
2. determine whether or not it is indeed the auto-role setting that is determining this
3. discuss whether it makes sense to toggle that setting to "off" as a default.

Laurie, Matt-- if I'm misreporting our discussions or missing any data, please correct!

As part of my Theme Assessment (https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/7828), I am identifying and suggesting new themes for the Commons to adopt.

In this thread, I am suggesting recently updated themes found in the WordPress.org repository that are built off of Google's Material Design: https://material.io/guidelines/
To note, all of these themes are responsive, and Material Design thoughtfully approaches accessibility, which Luke wanted me to prioritize: https://material.io/guidelines/usability/accessibility.html

The first definite suggestion is Materialize, which DH scholar Anastasia Salter has adopted for a web project, as she discusses here: http://www.chronicle.com/blogs/profhacker/thinking-digital-with-external-review-materials/64127
Here's the theme info: https://wordpress.org/themes/materialize/

Some other potential suggestions:
Teslata https://wordpress.org/themes/teslata/
Sirius Lite https://wordpress.org/themes/sirius-lite/
SEO WP https://wordpress.org/themes/seo-wp/
CPMmagz https://wordpress.org/themes/cpmmagz/
Hestia https://wordpress.org/themes/hestia/
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #4986 (Assigned): Prepare documentation for Zendesk re web widgethttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/49862015-12-07T19:35:30ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Per ticket 3660, we will have to use the Zendesk web widget starting Nov 2016. Ray told me that the team did not like that widget due to its lack of customization. Can we use this ticket to prepare a complaint/feature request that I can pass on to Zendesk?
Stemming from #3853-6, perhaps we should add activity stream support when the Co-Authors Plus plugin is used.

Here are some quotes from #3853-6:

About Co-Authors Plus, do we want to do something to support multiple authors? Create a new activity stream item for each author?

I'd say this is not worth the effort for our purposes. Though this suggestion, and others on this tracker and elsewhere (#3178), make me wonder whether BP's activity table should have an 'alias_of' column or something like that, which we could use instead of 'hide_sitewide' for hiding near-dupes. Hmmmmm....

Currently, it's only being used on three sites so it's not widely used across the Commons. I've marked the status of this ticket to "Hold", but feel free to close.
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #3492 (Assigned): Add CBOX theme to the Commonshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/34922014-09-24T23:47:25Zscott vothscott.voth@verizon.net

I was wondering if we want to have the CBOX theme as a choice for members on the Commons. Not sure if this would cause any difficulties, since it is a BP theme... Maybe with the sitewide wiki and its widgets (which we could also as a plugin option)?
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #2223 (Assigned): Add Participad to the CUNY Academic Commonshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/22232012-10-29T16:42:06ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

How/Where to add it? Boone, have you done any thinking along these lines already? Certainly, there will be UI considerations.
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #412 (Assigned): Featured Themeshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/4122010-11-23T19:13:51ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

I'd like to make the process of choosing themes easier for our bloggers. Is there a way that we could mark/tag some themes as "featured" and then offer bloggers the chance to choose from them instead of having to slog through the entire repository?
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #364 (New): Bulletin Boardhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/3642010-10-06T03:58:00ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

Hi All,

I've had a few people contact me to ask about where they might post announcements. I know we've talked about something like this in the past, but here are a few ideas:

1. A general area where people could post announcements. We could have a checkbox on sign up that asks people whether they want to subscribe by email
2. A craigslist type bulletin board -- perhaps done through a group, but is access more through the forum interface than through a group interface
3. A general group for announcements.

What do you all think? I think that, generally, it should be an easy to use space that allows opt-in subscriptions.
