Redmine CUNY Academic Commons - Support #19680 (New): JetPack https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/196802024-02-05T18:19:08ZMarilyn WeberMweber@gc.cuny.edu

My name is Malkah, and I am a writing consultant at the Graduate Center's Writing Center. We are in the process of creating a newsletter, which we will send to our mailing list, and we would like to use JetPack since it is already linked to our CUNY Commons website.

Unfortunately, as our mailing list exceeds 100 recipients, we cannot use the free version of JetPack. I am writing to inquire if

1. CUNY has a paid subscription to JetPack, which we can access.
2. If CUNY does not have a paid subscription to JetPack, can we at the Writing Center purchase this subscription and still have JetPack linked to our CUNY Commons website?

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

From https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/17476#note-19:

Strange update: One of my sites is now sending me e-mail alerts for broken links found in unpublished pages, even though I have the settings set not to check page drafts. I apologize for complaining about the opposite problem, but the system continues to regenerate these emails, so each time I receive the erroneous email, I think that there are new links I need to fix. (I have these links in an unpublished page because I need to store former links/link history there). If this unexpected behavior is something you could look into at some point, I would really appreciate it--and perhaps this info will help with the whole puzzle?

Here is the link to the unpublished page that is sending me broken link checker e-mail notifications https://syellegraves.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/post.php?post=7&action=edit&classic-editor

While debugging the WebAuthn plugin database prefix problem in #16245, I found out that we have never set the following line in our
wp-config.php
file:

define( 'MULTISITE', true );

This explains why our main site's database tables are prefixed with
wp_1_
rather than just
wp_
. See https://github.com/WordPress/WordPress/blob/c70a5c547f187e3a8c58779ae18155874cb412df/wp-includes/wp-db.php#L1065-L1069.

I just did a SQL query to see how many DB tables are affected and this is the result:

Most of these tables are for plugins we do not use on the main site anymore, so we can safely delete and ignore them. But before we add in the
define( 'MULTISITE', true )
line to
wp-config.php
, we'd have to copy the affected DB tables to use the
wp_
prefix first.

This is not really urgent to address (we've gone this long without the MULTISITE constant!), so we can look at this when Boone is back from vacation.
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #14987 (New): Elementor update causes database freeze-uphttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/149872021-11-23T21:19:15ZBoone Gorgesboone@gorg.es

On Nov 9 and Nov 23, as part of regular maintenance updates, I tried updating Elementor from version 3.4.4 to the latest version (3.4.6 or 3.4.8). Both times, the Commons database was brought to a halt by an influx of database connections, within minutes.

See https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/14986, https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/14951

Effective immediately, I won't be updating Elementor anymore during regular maintenance updates. Specifically, I will add it to the list of blocked plugins in my wp-cli-cac update tools. Ray, if you have your own version of these tools, please do the same.

The next time Elementor is updated to a new major version, say 3.5, I might consider trying the update again in isolation. I'll leave this ticket open for further investigation.
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #13835 (New): Allow OneSearch widget to have 'CUNY' as campushttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/138352021-01-14T21:52:35ZBoone Gorgesboone@gorg.es

As requested in https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/13783#note-4.

This will require checking whether the new OneSearch portal allows campus-agnostic searches. The old one did not, as far as I know.
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #12573 (New): CommentPress Core Issueshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/125732020-03-24T17:51:05Zscott vothscott.voth@verizon.net

I have retested following the release and there are still some issues:

the footer is does not display correctly

"Create A New Doc" goes to create a new group/site/group+site (Special Pages)

Site Home goes to CAC Homepage (Special Pages)

Recently Active button shows all Commons members who are recently active

Who is Online shows all Commons members who are online

If you change the theme to a non commentpress theme, and try to change back, you can only change to Comment Default theme, not the Modern theme (you have to deactivate plugin and reactivate to get to the Modern theme again)

Most of these are not terribly serious, and the plugin still works, but it would be nice to get them fixed in the future, when there is time.
AD/O365 Transition from NonMatric to Matriculated Students - Feature #12062 (In Progress): creat...https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/120622019-11-12T20:50:21ZEmilio RodriguezCUNY Academic Commons - Support #11545 (New): Twitter searches in WordPresshttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/115452019-06-11T15:52:47ZGina Cherry

We would like to display recent tweets from a Twitter search (e.g., #openpedagogy) in a widget on our site. Do you have any suggestions about how to do this? I've looked at the existing plugins and none of them seem to support this (they only support displaying your own tweets). I've also tried creating an rss feed of the search and using one of the rss widgets, but this has also failed for various reasons (feedburners not working or not supporting this type of feed). Is there a different approach that I've overlooked? Or is it possible to install a plugin that would support this?
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #9926 (New): twitter-mentions-as-comments cron jobs can run longhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/99262018-06-14T02:32:33ZBoone Gorgesboone@gorg.es

Just logged a long request triggered by a cron job in twitter-mentions-as-comments. It appears that the plugin does an hourly check that involves pulling up every single post on the site. This can take a very long time when a site has many posts. The plugin has no obvious internal mechanism for dividing this process into batches.

The plugin hasn't been updated in 5 years, so we might consider disabling it. Here are the sites where it's running:

As part of my Theme Assessment (https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/7828), I am identifying and suggesting new themes for the Commons to adopt.

In this thread, I am suggesting recently updated themes found in the WordPress.org repository that are built off of Google's Material Design: https://material.io/guidelines/
To note, all of these themes are responsive, and Material Design thoughtfully approaches accessibility, which Luke wanted me to prioritize: https://material.io/guidelines/usability/accessibility.html

The first definite suggestion is Materialize, which DH scholar Anastasia Salter has adopted for a web project, as she discusses here: http://www.chronicle.com/blogs/profhacker/thinking-digital-with-external-review-materials/64127
Here's the theme info: https://wordpress.org/themes/materialize/

Some other potential suggestions:
Teslata https://wordpress.org/themes/teslata/
Sirius Lite https://wordpress.org/themes/sirius-lite/
SEO WP https://wordpress.org/themes/seo-wp/
CPMmagz https://wordpress.org/themes/cpmmagz/
Hestia https://wordpress.org/themes/hestia/
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #3691 (New): WPMU Domain Mapping Debugging on cdevhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/36912014-12-02T17:23:21ZRaymond Hoh

As per the 1.7.5 release, there was a redirect issue with the WPMU Domain Mapping plugin during upgrade to v0.5.5 that forced us to rollback to the previous version (v0.5.4.3).

Boone has suggested that we help debug the latest release on cdev so we can send a patch back to the authors.

Hi All,

I've had a few people contact me to ask about where they might post announcements. I know we've talked about something like this in the past, but here are a few ideas:

1. A general area where people could post announcements. We could have a checkbox on sign up that asks people whether they want to subscribe by email
2. A craigslist type bulletin board -- perhaps done through a group, but is access more through the forum interface than through a group interface
3. A general group for announcements.

What do you all think? I think that, generally, it should be an easy to use space that allows opt-in subscriptions.
