Redmine CUNY Academic Commons - Support #19680 (New): JetPack https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/196802024-02-05T18:19:08ZMarilyn WeberMweber@gc.cuny.edu

My name is Malkah, and I am a writing consultant at the Graduate Center's Writing Center. We are in the process of creating a newsletter, which we will send to our mailing list, and we would like to use JetPack since it is already linked to our CUNY Commons website.

Unfortunately, as our mailing list exceeds 100 recipients, we cannot use the free version of JetPack. I am writing to inquire if

1. CUNY has a paid subscription to JetPack, which we can access.
2. If CUNY does not have a paid subscription to JetPack, can we at the Writing Center purchase this subscription and still have JetPack linked to our CUNY Commons website?

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

All the best,
Malkah Bressler
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #18496 (New): PHP 8+ Compatibilityhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/184962023-07-21T22:45:40ZRaymond Hoh

We're currently running PHP 7.4 in our PHPCS set up and on the GC server, but some of us are using PHP 8+ in our development environments. (For example, #16948.)

This will be a catch-all ticket to address deprecated notices, fatal errors and the like.

Also, just to note that PHP 7.4 reached end-of-life back in November 2022. Upgrading to PHP 8.2 is probably good to think about when we decide to move hosts. PHP 8.2 is supported until December 2025, while PHP 8.0 will reach end-of-life in November 2023.
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #16314 (New): Install Multicollab plug-in?https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/163142022-06-28T21:52:14ZRaffi Khatchadourianraffi.khatchadourian@hunter.cuny.edu

Seems useful for editing. What do you think?

I have retested following the release and there are still some issues:

the footer is does not display correctly

"Create A New Doc" goes to create a new group/site/group+site (Special Pages)

Site Home goes to CAC Homepage (Special Pages)

Recently Active button shows all Commons members who are recently active

Who is Online shows all Commons members who are online

If you change the theme to a non commentpress theme, and try to change back, you can only change to Comment Default theme, not the Modern theme (you have to deactivate plugin and reactivate to get to the Modern theme again)

Most of these are not terribly serious, and the plugin still works, but it would be nice to get them fixed in the future, when there is time.
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #11860 (New): Ensure Students Are Aware They Can Use Aliases At R...https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/118602019-09-15T19:43:59Zscott vothscott.voth@verizon.net

Explore ways to ensure students know that privacy is under their control. Maybe this is just adding a sentence in the registration process, or if they select the student checkbox, a popup could appear to notify them of their right to use an alias, and that display names can be changed at any time.
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #11843 (New): Tweaking the Gutenberg Editor Interfacehttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/118432019-09-10T18:58:33ZLaurie Hurson

Continuing a discussion that began in ticket #11833: CC Image Plugin: https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/11833

When a user is editing in the Gutenberg block editor view, the "Simple CSS" field is open/visible by default. This has confused multiple people who have entered post content in this field instead of into the content field. We may want to consider making the default setting for the "Simple CSS" area to closed/minimized.

Additionally, the content area where users enter the body of their post or page is poorly defined as the main place to enter info. The directional text in the content area is very small and the color contrast likely does not meet accessibility standards. We may want to consider reformatting this text in the block editor to make it more accessible and user friendly.

I think this also raises larger issues of accessibility of the block editor in general. Accessibility issues associated with the block editor were raised when Gutenberg was released but I am not sure how many of these issues have actually been addressed and fixed. I think Boone may know more about this?
CUNY Academic Commons - Bug #11024 (New): Subsites should not show "you should update your .htacc...https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/110242019-01-28T18:35:05ZBoone Gorgesboone@gorg.es

I've tried several times to remove the "Sociable" plugin from the JITP Staging Site (http://jitpstaging.commons.gc.cuny.edu) but the plugin will not deactivate.
asc/desc sorting. I like the idea but it will be hard to fit into the interface in a way that makes sense, especially since there are multiple kinds of sorting that are salient (created date, edited date, commented date)

Hi All,

I've had a few people contact me to ask about where they might post announcements. I know we've talked about something like this in the past, but here are a few ideas:

1. A general area where people could post announcements. We could have a checkbox on sign up that asks people whether they want to subscribe by email
2. A craigslist type bulletin board -- perhaps done through a group, but is access more through the forum interface than through a group interface
3. A general group for announcements.

What do you all think? I think that, generally, it should be an easy to use space that allows opt-in subscriptions.
