Description

Hi Boone,
I'm working with some fellows for the Data for Public Good project - and some are using Jupyter Notebook to document data transformations and annotate their decisions. We were looking for a way to embed the notebooks into a blog post on our Commons site: https://dataforgood.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

The oEmbed Gist plugin allows you to embed GitHub gists. It hasn't been updated in about a year, but has good reviews.. ?

Could it be implemented on our site, even if not network-wide?

Thanks for your feedback,
kristen

Hi Kristen -- I'm not sure whether this will give you what you want, but we already have a plugin called "Remote Markdown" available on the Commons. Here is the description:

This plugin adds a shortcode that allows to include contents in your posts and pages from a remote markdown-formatted file. It supports Github Flavored Markdown and is meant to synchronize your app documentation from your GitHub or Bitbucket repo to your website, without having the need to update both.

You can see it in action here -- https://dhintro18.commons.gc.cuny.edu/syllabus/

that page shows the contents of this file on Github -- https://github.com/mkgold/dhintro18/blob/master/IntroDH-syllabus-f18.md (and it updates automatically from it when the github file is updated)

Hi Matt,

Thanks for that suggestion! Unfortunately it won't work because we are trying to embed Jupyter Notebook files (.ipynb), which are not markdown files (.md). See here for an example: https://github.com/Data-For-Public-Good/irs_dataset/blob/master/geocoding.ipynb

I did try it anyway to see what would happen and it doesn't work as needed: https://dataforgood.commons.gc.cuny.edu/2019/04/03/test/

If getting the other plugin is not possible, that's ok! The plugin is ideal, but definitely not necessary.

Thanks,
kristen
