Status changed from New to Reporter Feedback

Can you get more clarification on what "run a search" means? Does it mean using the search box on https://vanbuskirk.commons.gc.cuny.edu/? Does it mean searching the Commons somehow - perhaps using the "Google Custom Search" at the top of the Commons home page? Does it mean searching Google, perhaps narrowing down the URL as in https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-google-coop&cx=004300494496351942816%3Avifba_gegbu&ei=dRmNXd2iBOKIggecjYqYDg&q=site%3Avanbuskirk.commons.gc.cuny.edu+chickenship&oq=site%3Avanbuskirk.commons.gc.cuny.edu+chickenship&gs_l=psy-ab.3...24333.28592..29089...0.2..0.212.1121.2j6j1......0....1j2..gws-wiz.......0i71.rgGwKg3QUpY&ved=0ahUKEwidscqNpO_kAhVihOAKHZyGAuMQ4dUDCAo&uact=5
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #11912: influence search results? https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/11912?journal_id=454692019-09-26T20:05:07ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

my understanding is that he is talking about a public search of google for the word "chickenship"
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #11912: influence search results? https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/11912?journal_id=454712019-09-26T20:07:08ZBoone Gorgesboone@gorg.es

Maybe, but https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-google-coop&cx=004300494496351942816%3Avifba_gegbu&ei=dRmNXd2iBOKIggecjYqYDg&q=site%3Avanbuskirk.commons.gc.cuny.edu+chickenship&oq=site%3Avanbuskirk.commons.gc.cuny.edu+chickenship&gs_l=psy-ab.3...24333.28592..29089...0.2..0.212.1121.2j6j1......0....1j2..gws-wiz.......0i71.rgGwKg3QUpY&ved=0ahUKEwidscqNpO_kAhVihOAKHZyGAuMQ4dUDCAo&uact=5 shows that it is being indexed by Google. If the problem is that it's showing up too far down in search results, it's probably because the site is not heavily linked, so has a low Google score.
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #11912: influence search results? https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/11912?journal_id=454722019-09-26T20:08:28ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

CC Scott, in case he's got Commons-specific info.

There are trillions of sites on the web with advice about how to improve SEO. https://goinswriter.com/website-seo-tips/ is a simple one I found. Much of the technical work is done by WordPress. But in the end, the bottom line is that Google must see you as authoritative, and it judges authority based on incoming links from other reputable sites.
CUNY Academic Commons - Support #11912: influence search results? https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/11912?journal_id=491712020-02-11T15:51:52ZBoone Gorgesboone@gorg.es
