Bug #21735
openNon_CUNY sign up code entry
0%
Description
Hi All, I was testing the non cuny sign up code process to see if it was still accurate because a user alerted me it was not working. The typical directions we give are:
Go to https://commons.gc.cuny.edu and click Register in the upper right hand corner. Enter your address in the Email Address field, then hit Tab (not Enter). Now >you will see a field asking for the signup code. It is: COIL2025. Once you have entered the code, complete the rest of the sign up process as usual. Then, check your >email (the one used to register) to activate the afccount.
I cannot get the code field to appear - hitting tab or enter or any other button - nothing works. Am I doing something wrong? Did we change this process? How should users input a NONCUNY sign up code?
I know this is not pressing right now due to the migration but several folks will need to have outside partners join before spring semester so if we can return to this after the migration, that would be great.
Thank you!!

It's mostly working for me. The red text "Checking..." etc was not showing up properly, because a bit of markup had been left out when we rebuilt this page. I've added it back on production, and now I'm seeing what you see in the attached gif. Can you test again to let me know what you are seeing?

I test and it works for me but still only if you use tab after the email field. If you use enter, you get a "Sorry, that email address is not allowed!" error. Can this be fixed? Thanks!

Hitting Enter submits the form. This is how it works on every form on the Commons, and on most websites. Changing this behavior is bad for semantics and for accessibility.
The "blur" behavior you describe (hitting Tab or otherwise navigating away) is how it's always worked. As long as it continues to work this way, then I think it's good enough for now.
In the future, we can explore client-side validation for the registration form, such that it will not be possible to submit the form if you haven't provided valid values.

The "Signup code" field should also show up if you use your mouse to click on any other form field like the "Choose a Password" field after typing in your email address in the "Campus Email Address" field. Can you give this a try, Marilyn?

Hi All,
Thanks for this feedback and the fix of the "checking..." text-- this definitely helps clarify what is going on.
I think I was not waiting long enough before resetting the page. But now with the checking text visible, it's clear that this is working.
Thank you!!
