Target version set to Future release

Re your last question: It's complicated. BuddyPress creates an invitation-type object when the user is added to the list (that's why they remain there if you leave the page and then come back) but I don't think there's any way for the invited member to accept the invitation until after "Send Invites" is clicked. So the short answer is that, for all intents and purposes, they invites are only sent when "Send Invites" is clicked.

Adding contextual text, as you suggest, seems like a good catch-all solution for your first paragraph. But if you also want to have some sort of status marker for members to whom invites have been sent, please open a separate ticket for this distinct feature.

If you'd like 'Send Invites' moved, or duplicated, please file a separate ticket for it. (Sorry to be nitpicky - it's hard to manage tasks when they're lumped together.)
CUNY Academic Commons - Feature #328: Make Group Invitation Status Clearerhttps://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/328?journal_id=19142010-12-20T16:08:31ZBoone Gorgesboone@gorg.es
