Assignee changed from Boone Gorges to Samantha Raddatz

Target version set to Future release

"My Groups Docs" doesn't seem grammatical to me. I'd suggest either "My Group Docs" or "My Groups' Docs". Does anyone have a preference?
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #4228: Change 'My Groups' label in 'Docs Directory'https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/4228?journal_id=197382015-06-25T22:14:27ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

I'm not sure what this will show. Docs created not by "me" but by others in groups I'm a part of? Not sure "my" is right there if so. I do agree that Groups Docs is wrong
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #4228: Change 'My Groups' label in 'Docs Directory'https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/4228?journal_id=197412015-06-25T22:17:10ZBoone Gorgesboone@gorg.es

"Docs belonging to groups of which I am a member"

Another option: if the existing tab is legitimately confusing, and if we can't come up with a label sufficiently succinct and clear, maybe we should just remove it.
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #4228: Change 'My Groups' label in 'Docs Directory'https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/4228?journal_id=197462015-06-25T22:21:56ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

What if we just called it "Group Docs" with the tacit understanding that it shows docs only from groups a member is part of? I think that's a reasonable assumption
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #4228: Change 'My Groups' label in 'Docs Directory'https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/4228?journal_id=198102015-06-30T16:15:04ZSamantha Raddatz

I agree that the grammar is off in "My Groups Docs" -- I think "My Group Docs" works.
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #4228: Change 'My Groups' label in 'Docs Directory'https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/4228?journal_id=198112015-06-30T16:19:23ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

"My Group Docs" suggests that the docs are owned by "me." I think that "Group Docs" is preferable to "My Group Docs" if this will include docs created by people other than me (but that are part of my groups)
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #4228: Change 'My Groups' label in 'Docs Directory'https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/4228?journal_id=198132015-06-30T16:55:45ZSamantha Raddatz

Assignee changed from Samantha Raddatz to Seth Persons

After thinking about this more, I think Boone’s suggestion to get rid of that tab entirely makes the most sense. It’s already not included on the Commons Profile > Docs (http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/members/samradd/docs/) and I think it’s more likely users are accessing the docs from within each individual group. I can’t think of a use case where the user would need to look at docs from multiple groups at once.

Seth -- before going further, is it possible to get stats on how many users end up on that page (http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/docs/my-groups/)?
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #4228: Change 'My Groups' label in 'Docs Directory'https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/4228?journal_id=198142015-06-30T17:00:17ZMatt Goldmattgold@gmail.com

One use case I can think of is that on a collaborative project, members may not remember who created a doc. They also may not remember in which group a doc was started. Perhaps this is an edge case, but as someone who is part of a lot of groups, I think it's reasonable. I'm fine with getting rid of the tab if I'm alone in this, but I would like us to do some user testing on it at a later date.
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #4228: Change 'My Groups' label in 'Docs Directory'https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/4228?journal_id=199212015-07-21T01:08:45ZSeth PersonsSETH.PERSONS@gmail.com

Assignee changed from Seth Persons to Samantha Raddatz

Just an update on the stats. I verbally updated Samantha and Chris in our meeting, but wanted to run the numbers again because they're so low and wanted to have an official record. The usage on that file path specifically (http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/docs/my-groups/) has been minimal: 43 views in the past year. This is a similar situation to the create new docs button where most of the page views come via the group specific urls rather than the general one.
CUNY Academic Commons - Design/UX #4228: Change 'My Groups' label in 'Docs Directory'https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/4228?journal_id=207642015-09-11T17:45:48ZSamantha Raddatz

Status changed from New to Resolved

Users in testing correctly understood the meaning of 'My Groups' as a tab in the Docs Directory. I think the low use of the 'My Groups' tab is related to the low use of the Docs Directory in-general, which is a different topic.

Based on that, we can leave the tab as-is and I'll mark this ticket as resolved :) Thanks for everyone's input!
