Most applicants applying directly to the college are not included in the CAS data (specific phases can identify directly admitted students in the CAS data who were reported to UAPC). OIRA staff compile fall admission statistics for recruitment purposes using CAS data from UAPC. However, these statistics may differ from internal statistics that the colleges have for reasons including:<br>

For several years, OIRA has been preparing a data file for college (now incorporated into the IRDB/Discoverer with the table name CAS_APP_ADM_ENR/CAS app adm enr) that allows one to count the number applicants, admitted, and enrolled freshmen, particularly useful for admission and yield rate computations. The table has a small subset of student demographic and background data, much less than is in the standard CAS file (or in CAS Limited Facts).<br>

<li>The data are “superscored” – that is, if the applicant had data for multiple test instances, the data that are reported in the CAS file are the highest score for each section. Following the same methodology used by UAPC, the NEWSATTOT variable is simply the sum of the highest scores for each section.</li>

<li>These data aren’t necessarily the data that were used for the applicant’s admission. CUNY receives SAT scores via mail and electronically. The data loaded into CUNYfirst are only for applicants who submitted their SAT scores electronically.</li>

Beginning in the fall 2015 term, UAPC began providing data for the Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 common core regents exams to OIRA. These data are available upon request to OIRA in the CAS SPSS files for fall 2015 and spring 2016 (please note that as these exams were first offered in June 2014, the fall 2015 and spring 2016 files contain very little common core regents exam data), and will be included in the merged CAS-SHOW files that are sent to the colleges from fall 2016 forward. The English common core regents exam data are held in the same variable as the non-common core English regents exam data. As of December 2016, these data are also available in the CAS Limited Facts table in the IRDB.<br>

One of the benefits to using CAS App Adm Enr is that using the SEEK CD Choice field, you can see the type of admission of all admits to a certain college and not just to the college of allocation. Another benefit is that all direct admits are automatically counted as applicants and admits.<br>

Prior to the 2014 survey, a random sample of students would be invited to complete the survey using a mailed paper survey. Beginning in 2014, the survey was only able to be completed online and the survey moved from a sample survey to a population (all eligible students) survey.
