Description

Cathy Leaker write via ZenDesk

"I am Dean of Faculty at Kingsborough Community College. We are hoping to share a password protected file showing the results of the COACHE faculty survey on a Commons site.

However, the Harvard Graduate School of Education, which administers the survey, distributes the data on a large Chrome html file (attached here) I tried to load it into the Commons but was told I couldn't because of security.

Is there any way i can get permission to share this file through the Commons?"

I tried to download it but it appears to be only 631 bytes - I assume because I don't have the password. I asked her if it needs to be shared as an HTML file or can it be converted to PDF.

Anything else I should ask? Do we ever make exceptions to this policy? Thanks!

For a one-off file, I can make an exception, but I'll need to perform the upload myself. Exactly how does it need to be password protected? Can it be limited by Commons group or site membership (in the same way as Docs and Files), or does there need to be a way for any user - whether logged into the Commons or not - to enter a password to download?

PDFs are indeed the preferred format for this.

On hold for now - "We’re currently working with our IT see if it can be loaded onto the server and shared that way, but we’re still encountering some challenges. If we end up using the commons, we would need any user with the password to have access."

Sounds good. I'll wait until they report back before making any technical suggestions.
