Description

Ned Benton writes:

"I have used "Custom Sidebars" in some sites when the side has distinct topical areas, so, for example. the sidebars for slavery topics would be different from civil war topics. I did this with Custom Sidebars plug-in, but I understand that Wordpress is evolving a new way to do this. Do you have any advice about how to do this without the plug-in? I cannot find any advice."

To my knowledge, you still have to use a plugin like Custom Sidebars, but it's possible that this feature is being developed as part of the next phase of the Gutenberg site-building project. Maybe Scott knows more.

Hi Ned - Yes, there are actually two plugins on the Commons - Custom Sidebars and WordPress Custom Sidebars. As I understand, they will continue to work with older themes, but newer themes may eventually do away with this functionality. I would think (like Boone) that WP will develop an alternate means of doing this.
