"Is it possible to request the Open External Links in a New Window plugin?

https://wordpress.org/plugins/open-external-links-in-a-new-window/

It was updated 3 weeks ago, and has over 40,000 active installations.

We very much need to set the links on many of our sites, on pages like this one, which has up to 50 external links: https://iletc.commons.gc.cuny.edu/materials-resources/heritage-telecollaboration/ht-modules/ht-module-fast-food-culture-zh/

Our whole team would use it, and we would save hours of work.

Thanks very much for your consideration!"

Seems OK to me. We will put it in the next release.

Thanks so much, Boone.

I tested the Open External Links in a New Window plugin on this site (2016 theme), and it works well so far: https://francaiscuny.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ce-qui-se-passe-en-cours-2-11-17-20-leading-successful-synchronous-sessions/

But, I activated the Open External Links in a New Window plugin in our ILTEC site (where we really need it), but it does not seem to be working. For example, this page's external links still open in the same tab:
https://iletc.commons.gc.cuny.edu/materials-resources/heritage-telecollaboration/ht-modules/ht-module-fast-food-culture-zh/
I've also noticed that our Broken Link Checker plugin on this ILETC site does not ever work... I find broken links on our site pretty regularly. Could these issues be related? Perhaps an interaction with the page builder of the Make theme?

Marilyn recommended I share this issue here.

Thanks!
Syelle

Hi Syelle - I visited https://iletc.commons.gc.cuny.edu/materials-resources/heritage-telecollaboration/ht-modules/ht-module-fast-food-culture-zh/, scrolled down to the 'Materials' list, and clicked 'Definition of Fast Foods'. This link opened in a separate window.

I noticed that the plugin works by adding an onclick event to the anchor tag. It could be that your browser is blocking JavaScript somehow. Try another browser or another computer to verify.

I'm unsure about the Broken Link Checker issue. That plugin should be theme-agnostic. If you're experiencing issues with it, I'd suggest opening a separate plugin that provides as much info as possible - what you did to set the plugin up, what you expected it to do, what you actually see, with URLs, etc.

Thanks so much for this reply, Boone. Sorry for the delay--I got no notification of your message, probably because I didn't make myself a watcher.

Yes, the Open External Links/New Window plugin is working magnificently now! I'm not sure what was going wrong earlier. My team is so grateful to you--this has saved us hours of work. I did not change browsers when it started working, but I'll try that in the future if it stops working.

And, your point about the anchor tag is helpful; I see that the link does not show in the back-end as being set to open in a new tab, so that's good to be aware of.

Finally, yes; I'll collect more details about the Broken Link Checker plugin, and follow up with a separate ticket, if I can recreate the bug.
