Description

Jana Porter, new user, writes "I have tried to upload a picture to my profile on the commons but each time it is displaying upside down. . . I even uploaded a version of the picture that was saved as an upside down version and it still displayed incorrectly. The picture on my CV is not being using as my regular profile picture."

She then sent me the pictures, attached, and I see what she means. She also wrote:"Is this first one with the stripes too large? This is the one I’ve been trying to upload in account settings. . .The Public CV picture (the second one in solid blue) is displaying. Is it supposed to be displayed in my profile for the Commons?"

The file Jana_Day_7.jpg is upside-down. When I rotate it using a utility on my computer, it also is right-side up when I upload it to the Commons. My guess is that the method you're using to rotate the image on your computer is not working for some reason. Hard to debug further without more info, but in any case it doesn't seem like a problem that's specific to the Commons.

Is this first one with the stripes too large?

Too large is not a problem. Too small can be a problem, but large pictures can be cropped. There's an upper limit on the size of avatar upload files, but it's quite a bit larger than these files.

Is it supposed to be displayed in my profile for the Commons?

The image shown on your CV is intentionally separate from the one that's used as your avatar throughout the site.

Tentatively closing this ticket, as it seems like all is working as expected.
