LaGuardia Community College reports
"I have a few Commons sites for my projects. I am using MarsEdit, but it started to spit errors after the migration to the new server. I believe it has something to do with the firewall settings of the new server since MarsEdit works fine on campus (i.e., from the LaGuardia/CUNY IP).
When you have a chance, could you look into it? I am listing the URLs of my sites and the screenshot of the error message.

The user mentions that there are no problems from CUNY IP addresses. Could you please ask for an IP address or range that has proved problematic, so that I can check the logs? Timestamps (or rough timeframes, at least) would be useful as well.
Could you also ask for more details on how it's failing? I see lots of successful MarsEdit requests in the access logs, which suggests to me that at least part of the functionality is working. Does it fail only occasionally, or only when performing certain types of actions, or only after using it for a long time, or some other pattern? Or perhaps I'm wrong, and the connection is not working at all?

They reply
After a few experiments, it seems that my home IP is blacklisted probably because of my repeated requests during the transition. MarsEdit works fine with my school IP and my mobile hotspot IP. I attached the error message. Below is the list of my IP and timestamps.

I've reached out to get some clarity from our web host.
In the meantime, it would be extremely helpful to get some of the following info from the user:
Does it fail only occasionally, or only when performing certain types of actions, or only after using it for a long time, or some other pattern? Or perhaps I'm wrong, and the connection is not working at all?
I ask because, while in the logs I see a 403 request with a timestamp matching the "blocked" IP, I also see a number of successful MarsEdit request from the same IP address, about 15 minutes earlier. The details matter here, as they help us to identify at what point in the stack the problem might be occurring.

I got a report back from the host that they'd identified a rule that may have been causing the problem. Could you please ask the user to try again and report back?

- Status changed from New to Resolved
- Target version set to Not tracked
Haven't heard more about this, so I'm assuming it was resolved by our server-level changes.
