Description

  1. Search box is no longer aligned with the search button, e.g., see https://khatchad.commons.gc.cuny.edu/#searchform, attached screenshot.
  2. The pullquote block looks odd. Specifically, it's now boxed, where it wasn't before, and is missing a side on the right, e.g., attached screenshot from my research page.
  3. Edit link is missing on the bottom of pages and posts as mentioned in #23259 (not a huge deal since I can press the top edit button).

For the search box, I've added some custom CSS under the Customizer's "Additional CSS" panel to remove the margin-left declaration. For the blockquote, Academica is using the WP block library in the latest update, which overrode the styles for blockquotes so that's why the blockquote border looks broken; I've removed the border-left declaration with custom CSS.

For the Edit link, I would encourage you to post about this to the Academica support forum, Raffi.

Thanks, Raymond. But, I don't see it under "Simple CSS" in the theme customizer. I also don't see an "Additional CSS" panel.

Thanks! Eh, I liked the old style much better. But, thank you for fixing it.

Haha yeah this one isn't a big deal. I'm just so used to it. OK will do. Thanks!

I've added some revised CSS to try and match the blockquote from an earlier iteration of your Research page: https://web.archive.org/web/20250217143846/https://khatchad.commons.gc.cuny.edu/research/

Let me know if that works.

About the "Additional CSS" panel, I've attached a screenshot of where to find it in the Customizer. I used this panel instead of the "Simple CSS" one because there were already custom CSS declarations under the "Additional CSS" panel. Let me know if you have access to that panel.

Thanks, it looks good! Ah, I also miss that old font! :).

Funny enough, I don't see that panel at https://khatchad.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/customize.php. Please see the attached screenshot.

Looks like according to WordPress Core, the "Additional CSS" panel defaults to super administrators: https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/38672#comment:16

I've moved over all the custom CSS from the Additional CSS panel over to Simple CSS, so you are able to keep track of the changes.

As for the font, can you try some of the options under the Customizer's Typography panel? If you do not like any of them, I can write some CSS to bring back the old fonts.

Hey Ray. Thanks for this, but I'm now also noticing some issues on the mobile side. Particularly, the menu button and the search box don't look correct on the new theme on mobile:

Old: https://web.archive.org/web/20250223174427/https://khatchad.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

New: https://khatchad.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

Screenshots also attached. Do you think it's worth going back to the older version of the theme of academia?

I did some more research here. It seems that some of the custom CSS that Ray moved over from the pane that was hidden from me isn't quote working well under the new these version. Removing that resolves some of the problems. Looks like I'll need to rewrite some of the CSS for the new theme version.

I actually don't know where a lot of this CSS came from. I used to be able to have access to the other custom CSS panel, but I lost it relatively recently.

I've tweaked the CSS a bit more for mobile. Let me know if you see any more discrepencies, Raffi.

Do you think it's worth going back to the older version of the theme of academia?

We generally do not downgrade themes unless it is for extraordinary circumstances. If we get additional reports from other users about Academica, we'll take this into consideration.

This might have been due to some other tickets. See #20431, #17271.

Looks good to me. Thanks, Ray! There's still some wonkiness on desktop that I was going to try to fix also.

Hm. The "Continue Reading" link is now also the wrong color.

Looks like Academica's read more link color CSS overrides the chosen color. I've just set the read more link to inherit the chosen color.

Let me know if that looks okay to you, Raffi.

Thanks, Ray! Did you do this in the "Simple CSS" pane?

Tes, it looks better. If it's okay, I'd like to keep this issue open a little longer to fix some lingering issues with the new theme version. Thanks.

Yes, I did.

Sure, we'll leave this ticket open for you to report other things if they come about.

I think that maybe some of the "Colors" of the theme customization changed as a result of the theme version upgrade.

Do you have some examples, Raffi? Let me know so I can attempt to fix them. If there are a lot, might be good to compile a list and inform the Academica theme authors on wordpress.org. You can add the "read more" link color to that list as well.
