Description

Hi Ray,

Received the following report:

Secondly, I created a new forum topic in the Steering Group and it isn't appearing

Probed for more details:

I started a new topic in the steering committee hit submit and it didn't show up. Tried again and nothing, no error.

Tried it in the announcements group. Hit submit and it took me to the front page for that group and the announcement isn’t there.

Happened with Omeka group and Announcements group. Browser Mac Chrome, user kkeramidas.

Yes, in Forum, hitting New Topic button underneath group description and then filling out content box at bottom of screen and hitting submit.

I just checked the "Topics" admin dashboard in bbPress and the topics posted by kkeramidas were marked as spam.

I've just unmarked the most, latest topic by kkeramidas from the spam section.

There are others in the "Spam" area as well:
http://nycdh.org/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=spam&post_type=topic

But, I left them in there just in case these are duplicates of existing topics.

Let me know if that is enough to address the issue.

Thanks, Ray. None of those others ones are spam, but the difficulty is that they are also old and probably shouldn't be posted at this point (it's confusing to have older posts appear months after they were submitted).

Any idea why these are being marked as spam? Any way to ensure that future posts by those authors are not marked as spam without posting these old posts? Thanks.

I took a closer look at these spammed items and it was actually Akismet that marked those posts as spam.

Since NYCDH is a closed community that requires users to have a .edu or .org email address, we can look at possibly disabling Akismet support in bbPress (and also the Activity stream in BuddyPress as well). This will probably fix our issues.

What do you think, Matt?

The alternative is writing a small plugin that notifies the site admin when a post is marked as spam by bbPress. Then, the admin can quickly decide if the item is spam or not.

Interesting, Ray. My only concern about deactivating Akismet is that we do have some blogs on the site and I wouldn't want them to be spammed. Is there any way of having Akismet be active only on blogs and not on BbPress?

I would only be disabling the Akismet module in bbPress and BuddyPress.

Akismet would still be active across the blogs that have it enabled. I think this should be safe.
