Description

As we talked about in today's Comm Team meeting, the novel means of interaction provided by the 'My Commons' page deserves a high-level writeup. This document will also serve as generative text for other messaging, so we're slating it to be completed by Oct 3.

as noted during the call, I suggested that we ask users to think about this not just as another feature on the commons, but rather as a new interface to the CAC, a new way to experience it. The point is that it provides a more personalized way of viewing the Commons. Notably, this makes friending more important and will become more usable to the extent to which a user's friends reflect whom they'd like to hear more from.

Scott - Sarah - can you update this ticket and/or the Commons site w/the text thus far? Boone and Chris' writeups are excellent fodder as well as Matt's core observation, above.

I'm working on it now. Can you point me to Boone and Chris' writeups?

Both are in our team forum under the title "Preparing for 1.7 Release"

Here's what I put together:

Our biggest functionality change with the 1.7 release, created to provide a more personalized experience for members, is My Commons. With this new feature, we’ve created a user-focused dashboard area where members will see information on the Commons that is relevant to them. When members log into the Commons, instead of being taken back to the home page, they are now taken to My Commons; where they can choose to browse all site activity, activity related to groups they are members of, sites that they follow and contribute to, and activity of members they are friends with. You can still filter sitewide activity on the News page, but My Commons provides a more streamlined way for members to connect to information that relates to things that they are working on or are interested in.

Scott, do you have anything on this?

Hi -
So far I have created two pages on the codex that I will later turn into posts and advertise when we go live. Here is what I have so far. It is still pretty rough and I might break it out further.

http://codex.commons.gc.cuny.edu/my-commons-2/

Also was planning to do 2 hero slides - one for the release in general, and one for My Commons

Looks great so far, Scott -- thanks for getting these started!

One note: on the My Commons page, please see if you can include a screenshot that shows multiple "cards"/updates

Looking forward to your continued work on this - many thanks!

Looks great, with the one change I noted (edit "slick"). Please ready the post and have it ready to go as a draft. Thanks!
