closedQuestion - Google Analytics, Mapped Domains, and WP-Google-Analytics plugin

Description
In reference to http://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/3478
I am just wondering - should members be required to open up their own Google Analytics account and use their own tracking ID or should we provide the Commons tracking ID so that it flows into our statistics and set up a view for them as per usual? It seems that mapped domain statistics are lost if they don't use our tracking ID. On the other hand, if some site uses this plugin that is not mapped, and uses our tracking ID, would the stats be counted twice?

My understanding from the discussion on #3478 was that the individual site analytics, as enabled by the plugin, are totally independent of the global analytics that the Commons collects. When you say "it seems that mapped domain statistics are lost", it suggests that this understanding is incorrect. How are you arriving at this conclusion? Are you cross-referencing between the two?

Hi - I just thought that since we cannot access the mapped domain statistics on our Google Analytics site we might not be counting them? Not sure.

We put our global analytics code into footers across the Commons. The plugin adds a separate block of code to call a different Analytics account. My understanding is that each page load should register on both accounts, independently of one another. Scott, have you had a chance to check that this is actually the case?
