Hi Ray,
I'm a sitewide admin on nycdh.org. I just requested membership in a private group and I was taken to a page that had two things wrong with it:
1. It still said "Request Membership," so I don't know whether my request went through
2. the page content was sort of loaded within a frame
Please see the attached screenshot. It seems like this could be a CBOX issue.

Fixed.
Was an issue with the CBOX Theme and not porting a fix over from the BuddyPress group home template. I've committed the fix here.
