a commons site is currently using the Social plugin to broadcast tweets and fb postings, but since not supported, what do you recommend as a replacement?
Busra Unluonen, a student, has asked me to help her. She demonstrated how it no longer works.

I recommend using the Publicize feature that's built into Jetpack. Here's some documentation: https://jetpack.com/support/publicize/

Bursa points out that unlike Socialize, JetPack's Publicize does not allow for the broadcasting of events. Is there a work around?

I've just put a fix into place along the lines of https://jetpack.com/support/publicize/#custom-post-types. I'm unable to test this fully because the Jetpack integration is closely tied to the current user's wordpress.com account. Can your team verify?
