I noticed that there's a plug-in for gists but none for GitHub repos. Could this plug-in be installed? https://wordpress.org/plugins/github-embed/

Sure, this looks like a good idea. Note that it doesn't seem to support in-depth embedding of repos in the sense that you can browse them without leaving the Commons, but it does at least give nice little "cards" related to GitHub users, repos, etc.

Installed in https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/cac/commit/1a249c87a4e35f2e1868185f18e897e88b6b9f74. It'll be available after the next release.
