closedSelect Multiple, Mark as Read on PMs Doesn't Work

Description
Attempting to mark multiple new private messages as read to clear a notification, and though the background #fff9db disappears for those messages after doing so, when I refresh their state returns to being unread.
Might make sense to roll this into a larger conversation about notifications, which continue to confound.

Can you please give specific steps to reproduce? You mention notifications, but your note about "background" suggests that you're not reporting anything specific about notifications.

- Click on notifications dropdown in BP Admin Bar, "You have 3 new messages" link. Takes me to https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/members/lwaltzer/messages/.
- Check boxes next to three unread messages
- Click Mark as Read
This clears the yellow bg color for those messages, though not the "You have 3 new messages" notification.
When I refresh, the the yellow bg color returns.

Thanks - this helps me to understand what's going on. It sounds like it might be a BuddyPress bug. I'll investigate.

As I suspected, this is a BuddyPress bug. https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/7569
I've put a hotfix into place for the Commons: https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/cac/commit/90a6e5ff8a3f39c1402751c9bdea67ae54b34e02 We can remove this once BuddyPress has a fix.
