Description

I encountered a bug that won't select the license option #2 "Allow adaptations of your work to be shared" while creating a new site on the Commons. Here is how to recreate the bug:
  1. During the site creation process click on 'Choose license' under the 'License' section.
  2. Click on any of the options under '2. Allow adaptations of your work to be shared' ==> nothing happens
  3. Even if you close the widow the 'selected' license #2 isn't reflected on the site creation page
Expected behavior is, just like when selecting either of the other two license options, that the content of the modal changes to reflect the license selected and upon closing of the modal the selected license is reflected on the site creation page as well. For license option #2, nothing happens when any of the options are clicked.

Hi Sonja,

The license chooser has three questions in total if you did not select to use a public domain license from the first question.

The third question, "Allow commercial uses of your work", needs to be answered in order for the license to be updated.

Are you viewing the site creation page on a mobile device and are not able to see the third question?

Hi Ray,
I'm looking at it on desktop. If there is a specific order in which you need to answer those it's not aparent. It seems you just need to pick one of the three options (either 1., 2., or 3., not a combination of them). I actually recorded my session while creating the site, you can see the snipped where I try select the license here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/17sRMu9Yw0xQlwZNI9bf9VX60mn4x7wXI/view?usp=sharing

Let me know what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks!

If there are any required fields to update the license that I missed to hit we might need to implement some error states to help guide the user.

Ray,
Going through the process again I can now see that it was a user error on my part. I wonder if other people have the same issue, basically not understanding that you need to pick an option in each section. Any read on that? We might want to close this ticket and reopen if other people report this issue to adjust the wording to help guide users better.

If we decide that action is needed, we can move this to an earlier milestone.

Sorry for the late response, Sonja.

I value your feedback here. If it's not clear to you and you are our UX maven, I think we need to make some improvements! We could add some additional text to make this clearer or I can perhaps make the modal persistent so it isn't closeable when you click on the gray backdrop until all the required questions are answered. (The latter option might not be possible, but I'll look into it.)

I'm open to further suggestions.

I'll take another look at this early next week.

Ray,
I finally had a chance to review the current implementation of the site license picker and I think with the copy provided it's quite clear. So I think we should keep it as is unless there is additional user feedback that indicates usability issues. I'm going to mark it as 'resolved'.
