Description

Hi Boone,

Do members currently have the ability to embed slideshare presentations into their blogs? As member has asked about this in the help group: http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/groups/wordpress-help/forum/topic/slideshare/

My understanding is that they don't; if that is indeed the case, maybe we should look to add one of these plugins: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=slideshare

The only thing that worries me about this approach is that we are currently adding the ability to embed various objects from various platforms on a one-by-one basis (one for Google Maps, one for Flickr, one for video, etc.). Is there a better, more unified approach that we could explore short of allowing members to embed iframes, which we've already discussed and deemed undesirable from a security perspective?

WordPress currently supports Slideshare via oEmbed. Paste a Slideshare URL on its own line in the editor, and WP will take care of the rest.

Over the years, we've developed a routine whereby we install shortcode plugins for popular services, and build custom shortcode handlers for embeds that don't have existing plugins. Given the relatively small amount of requests along these lines, I think we should continue with the current policy.
