CUNY Academic Commons

The Commons should be upgraded to BuddyPress 1.5 relatively soon. We're a flagship BP installation, so we should strive to be on the cutting edge as much as possible. Moreover, because our development blog is a valuable resource for folks administering BP sites, we have an opportunity to do some writeups that will be valuable to the community. Plus, BP 1.5 is so much better, it will make my life much easier.

Upgrading to BP 1.5 will require thorough checking, and probably a moderate level of modification to our BP plugins and our BP theme. My own plugins are generally BP 1.5-ready. Off the top of my heads, the most important plugins that will need some work are BP Group Documents and (perennially) BP Groupblog. Enhanced BuddyPress Widgets will be deprecated, as it's been rolled into BP Core. Forum Attachments will need careful checking as well. bp-nelo will need at least some attention, if only in the area of navigation elements.

I'm putting this task under the 1.3 milestone at the moment, though this placement is tentative at best. I plan to do most of the BP 1.5-related development in a separate subbranch of 1.2-branch, with an eye toward devoting a 1.2.x release to BP 1.5-related upgrades. (The reason for this is that our implementation of BP 1.5 won't really include many user-facing features, as befitting a feature release.)
