Description

BuddyPress Group for Community Admins and Mods Plugin
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-for-community-admins-and-mods/

This looks like an interesting plugin, in that (as far as I can tell) it automates the process of adding new group administrators to a sitewide admin group. Wondering whether we can add this to our site so that we don't have to add new admins to the Group for Group Admins manually -- mostly because we haven't been doing that.

Alternatively, Boone, perhaps you can write a script that would automate the synching process without having to add this plugin.

Yes, this plugin is good, though nb (1) it won't work retroactively out of the box (it's only triggered on the 'joined group' action) and (2) it will make group membership automatic rather than invited, which is something we haven't done in the past. If you're OK with these things, I'll add it.

The plugin is added in https://github.com/castiron/cac/commit/a5ac9ce848b790a40cd5d065a165ecf928fd94aa. I also added a little script that will allow us to set the Admin Group id used by the plugin to the id of our existing group for group admins. Let me know if you're ok with the other changes mentioned in my previous comment.

I don't know. Maybe we should discuss this on Friday. I really don't like adding people automatically. It is potentially high-value for us, though. We should consider other potential options, like creating our own plugin that creates a pop-up when people become admins saying something like, "hey -- we noticed that you're an admin. Please join our low-traffic "Group for Group Admins" to hear group-related announcements that may affect your community. [Yes, please add me] [no thanks]"

I would rather add people automatically than introduce yet another intrusive pop-up.

Okay. Then let's move ahead with this.

One question: if someone is an admin of a group and then gets auto-added to the group for group admins, gets annoyed, and leaves that group, and THEN becomes admin of another group, will he/she be added again to the group for group admins? That could be annoying.

As things currently stand, yes, and I agree that it's annoying. I should be able to make it so that the following happens:
- When a user leaves the GFGA, his id is added to a list of users who have actively left the group
- That list is checked against every time someone becomes a group admin; if the new group admin is found on the list of users, he is not added to the GFGA

If we find that people leave the group and then later want back in, then I'll build a mechanism for allowing that to happen. (If nothing else, they can just be added by the site admin via Network Admin > Group Management)

Let me know if this is OK with you and I'll move forward.
