Description
Syelle Graves reports:
"I may have found a bug: Every time I invite Commons users to join my site with an Author role, once they accept, they are given the Contributor role instead. This is happening very consistently; I have to manually change everyone's roles, choosing Author a second time.
Here's the site: https://francaiscuny.commons.gc.cuny.edu/
I've attached a screenshot of our newest member: invited as Author, but added as Contributor."

I tried reproducing this through the invitation modal, but in my tests, the roles are being correctly assigned.
I wonder if perhaps Syelle is, for some reason, not seeing the invitation modal. Can you please ask her to provide a screenshot of what it looks like when she's creating the invitation?
Got it, thanks. This is the modal, which I was able to make work correctly.
I've got some debugging tools in place so that, the next time a user accepts an invitation to this site, certain information will be written into a log file. Could you have Syelle let you/me know the next time this happens, at which point I can check?
Sure. I've asked her to invite me as a test.
She did, and I've accepted. She sent two more screenshots, attached now.
Thanks, Marilyn. In the logs, I see what I expect: your account mweber was added to the site with the role of author. And when I see the user list, you are listed as an Author. https://francaiscuny.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/users.php So it looks like it's behaving as expected. Perhaps someone manually promoted you to Author after the fact?
If we aren't able to reproduce the issue, I can simply leave the debug tools in place, and Syelle can let our team know the next time that this bug happens to resurface in the natural process of adding folks to the site.

Haven't heard of more recurrences, so I'm tentatively closing. Please reopen if you get more reports.
