Not sure if this is an issue with bbPress or with BuddyPress. I'll have to trace how forum posts get into the activity stream to find out where the markup is being turned into square bracket markup. When you type your forum message you use regular html tags, and obviously the code is rendered in html. Check db to see if it's stored there in square bracket form. Maybe filter it back into real html on the way to the activity stream? Or maybe just make sure the html is sanitized before saving it and don't bother converting to square brackets
