Description

When I try to publish or save a draft of the post at https://wordpress.com/post/khatchad.commons.gc.cuny.edu/4994, I get an error simply saying that there was a failure with no other detail.

I got it to work (see https://khatchad.commons.gc.cuny.edu/2022/03/02/program-committee-pc-member-for-ase-2022-lbr/). I had to log into https://khatchad.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin first. There seems to be some weird interplay here between wordpress.com and commons.gc.cuny.edu user authentication. Here are the steps to reproduce:

1. Visit a commons site connected to JetPack.
2. Ensure that you are logged out of the commons site but logged in to wordpress.com.
3. Add a new post using the JetPack menu bar.
4. Publish or save a draft of the post.

You'll see the error the (no other details). Then, log into the commons using wp-admin. Then, it will work.

Hi Raffi,

2. Ensure that you are logged out of the commons site but logged in to wordpress.com.

This sounds like the same problem we were having with JetPack in the past. See https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/12624#note-47.

In that post, I mention the following:

If I am not logged into the Commons and go to wordpress.com, then I click on the Commons post I want to edit. I will get redirected to login to the Commons and afterwards, I will be redirected to the Commons dashboard to edit the post.

Can you confirm this workflow? Do you get redirected to login and after authentication, do you get redirected to the Commons dashboard?

Regarding this:

When I try to publish or save a draft of the post at https://wordpress.com/post/khatchad.commons.gc.cuny.edu/4994, I get an error simply saying that there was a failure with no other detail.

Does adding the ?set-editor=classic workaround to the wordpress.com/post/ URL do anything? See https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/12624#note-57. If not, will have to do some additional debugging to see what JetPack is doing.

This isn't the workflow exactly. I don't go to wordpress.com, but I do use the wordpress.com menu bar (effectively the same thing). However, what fundamentally differs from your described workflow is that I do not get redirected to log in to the Commons and I do not get redirected to the Commons dashboard to edit the post (actually, I would think this latter point is a bug if that did happen).

Do you get redirected to login

As above, no, I did not. I just got the error I described.

Since I published the post by discovering the workaround, we would need to recreate the situation in order to test that. However, I believe I was using the block editor.

In fact, I would say that this issue is not a duplicate of #12624.
