Description

Juwon Jun reports:

"I have an additional issue regarding the website. One of our users was commenting on a blog post, but it was flagged as spam. The comment did not contain any links or anything suspicious, but it was a longer comment than most. Is there a way to prevent user comments from being filtered as spam?"

I wonder if this is related to this:

Hi Marilyn,

Can you ask Juwon to provide links to the content in question?

"It's Masha Komolova's comment on this post: https://psyched4stem.commons.gc.cuny.edu/2022/07/12/reflection-on-topic-1-belonging-and-social-skills/

It may be password protected. In which case, the password is 1234."

Hi Marilyn,

Can you tell Juwon to tell users to login to the Commons before posting their comment? If users are logged in when posting, the comments are not checked against Akismet.

It is possible to force commenting to logged-in users only under the "Settings > Discussion" admin dashboard page and checking the "Users must be registered and logged in to comment" option: https://psyched4stem.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/options-discussion.php

In the case of Masha's comment, it looks like Masha was not logged in when posting the comment, which meant that the comment got submitted to Akismet and Akismet falsely marked the comment as spam. Juwon did the right thing by unspamming the comment, which should train Akismet to do better.

Hope that helps.

You cn close this. She replies "Hi Marilyn, thank you so much. This makes sense and I will use that setting so users are logged in."
