Description

Hi All,

A request from a faulty member about allowing upload of Open Documents, (related to redmine ticket #13578)

Two years ago I had a request (4906) handled by Laurie Hurson to
add Open Document Presentation (ODP) files to the CUNY Common media
uploader.

Now I'm finding that other Open Document file formats are still being
blocked, such as the text (ODT) spreadsheet (ODS), and graphics (ODG)
files. At the moment I'm trying to upload a spreadsheet file as a
supplement to a paper submission (see attachment).

I'll point out like last time that Open Document file formats are ISO
standards, supported by all the main office software and web suites, a
mandatory standard of NATO members, etc., so I think it's wise that we
support these standards.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDocument

I hope we can open up submissions of ODS and other open document formats
at this time?

Let me know what you think.

Thank you!

  • Status changed from New to Staged for Production Release
  • Assignee set to Boone Gorges
  • Target version set to 2.0.7

I've added the remaining OpenDocument file extensions from the Wikipedia page to the allowed list. https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/cac/commit/61f78ef5de6423f9214acc17bebfd4da686e9c07 This will be in effect after the next maintenance release.

Thanks Boone!

The next release is 9/13 correct? So they will be able to add those files after this date?

If the user wants to upload these file types sooner in order to share with students as part of their ongoing course, is it possible to allow on just their site? If not that is fine. Sorry to complicate this process, I can just imagine the user asking this so I am trying to get ahead of their question.

In the interest of time, I've deployed the change to the production site.
