Description
Via ZD:
I’m currently building a site for Spring 2023 (via the Open Knowledge Fellowship!) and I was hoping to use a particular WordPress theme. Given the aesthetic I’m looking to cultivate, would it be possible to add the folloeing theme to the currently available options?
https://wordpress.com/theme/pixl
Thank you!
Best,
Flora

Pixl https://wordpress.org/themes/pixl/ is built by the wordpress.com team and so is well-written and seems reasonably well supported.
I want to check with Matt and Laurie to gauge their thoughts on whether we want to be in the business of offering novelty themes. Put another way: is this a theme we'd consider offering to all Commons users, or is it best to limit it to the requesting user?

Hm, I think I lean towards offering it to all users?
I only say this because I can imagine that other users may have creative ideas for how to use and implement this theme and I don't want to shut down creative possibilities because its a novelty theme. However, it sounds like there may be some rationale for not offering novelty themes? If so, let me know.

- Category name set to WordPress Themes
- Target version set to 2.0.12
The only rationale is a general tendency toward parsimony. It's better, both for users and for our maintenance team, to offer a small number of high-quality and diverse options, than to offer a larger number of options that may not be relevant. If we start adding lots of single-purpose themes (I don't mean for the word "novelty" to be dismissive - I just mean that their use case is quite narrow) then we risk gumming up the works.
All this being said, I don't have a problem with Pixl and I'll plan to add it to the next maintenance release.
