Description
From Indranil Choudhury
I'm an RA working with CITE CUNY - we use Commons for our websites and I was reaching out to request a new theme (twenty twenty three) and plugin (Twentig):
- What's the name of the plugin/theme?
Twenty twenty three
- In a few words, what does it do?
Latest blank/default theme from Wordpress with FSE
- How is the theme different from what's already provided on the Commons?
It's the updated version of twenty twenty two that Commons offers. As FSE is still relatively new, being on the latest version will ensure access to maximum updates.
- What's the potential impact? Who will use it?
Anyone who wants a highly customizable site
- Who is the plugin author?
Wordpress
- What's the name of the plugin/theme?
Twentig - https://wordpress.org/plugins/twentig/
- In a few words, what does it do?
Adds Google fonts and other important features to FSE themes
- How is the theme different from what's already provided on the Commons?
There isn't a comparable alternative that's dedicated to expanding the functionality of block themes
- What's the potential impact? Who will use it?
Anyone using block themes
- Who is the plugin author?
Twentig

Hi Marilyn,
Looks like Twenty Twenty Three was already installed late last year as part of WordPress v6.1.1, but we never network-activated the theme. I've just network-activated the theme across the Commons, so it should be available to use now.
As for the Twentig plugin, I've just added the plugin to the codebase: https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/cac/commit/7391b264a7390156c808460b35259eadc910955b. Plugin will be available after the next release scheduled on the 28th.
Boone, one change I've made to the plugin is to not save remote fonts to our local filesystem: https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/cac/commit/45cb9ce0149f8974037ef5fff08ae2dbe1f6aaf5. This is where Twentig loads up a downloaded version of the webfont: https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/cac/blob/45cb9ce0149f8974037ef5fff08ae2dbe1f6aaf5/wp-content/plugins/twentig/inc/block-themes.php#L95-L115. Instead, webfonts will now be loaded from font.googleapis.com
.
