Description

Hi All,

I had a meeting with the folks creating this site:

https://lilacclone2.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

There is a strange issue with the home pages, I think it might be due to the front end editor theme or a bug with the autosave on home page.

The desired home page (as seen) has "Lilac" in purple with shadow, Teaching Materials/Events/Scholarships color blocks, generative AI, Info lit toolkit.

When you click "edit site" or "edit page" you are able to edit the visible home page.

But if you go into the Dashboard > Pages > edit page (home), you see an entirely different page. It may be an older version but I was nervous to tell the user to restore the version for fear that it would delete the current home page. We also could not see the revision difference when clicked.

Would you be able to take a look to determine what is causing this weird behavior? Ideally, when you go through Dashboard>Pages> Edit Page (home/front page) it should allow a user to edit the same home page that is visible when you visit the site.

Thank you!

It appears that there are two pages called 'Home Page'. See screenshot.

The one marked 'Front Page' is the one actually powering the home page. It has ID 2174, and it's what you see when you click Edit Page while looking at the home page: https://lilacclone2.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/post.php?post=2174&action=edit

The other one has the ID 2434: https://lilacclone2.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/post.php?post=2434&action=edit

The page used for the home page is controlled at Dashboard > Settings > Reading > "Your Homepage displays".

The draft home page is one we made while I was on a call yesterday with the user.

However, they reported the following after sharing the screenshot, attached:

"It worked! I just copied all the stuff from the Front Page to Home, so now they look the same. Going to risk it all and try replacing Front Page with a Content block and seeing if it shows up the same from the Home Page.

I am thinking I am just going to leave it how it is now, and tell whoever is next that if they want to change the home page they need to “Edit Site.”

Unless it is worth just replacing the build on the template with simply a “Content” block for some reason. "

Oh, interesting. I guess this is a good note for people using this theme. It's the kind of behavior that's more likely to arise as themes rely more heavily on the new(ish) full-site editing tools in WP.
