Description

Members in this forum report that they are unable to upload attachments

http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/groups/ncc-partnerships-committee/forum/topic/draft-op-committee-report/

I just tested on the totally cool forum, and I was able to upload attachments under both my own account and under test student

It was an issue with document size. I was using the default size limits, which were relatively small. I have changed the error status in the database so that the item is no longer listed as too large. It now appears in the proper place in the forum post.

I also increased the file size limits to something reasonable.

I will file a separate feature request ticket for proper user error reporting.

Boone, I can see the file listed as an attachment, but clicking on the file from the forum post itself leads to a blank screen, so it's impossible to open it.

Sorry, you're right. I guess the file wasn't saved to the server when it was deemed too big. The user will have to reupload. I'll remove the attachment message for the failed uploads.

Okay -- sounds good. I've informed the member, but I'm not sure whether they are going to reupload the document to test it out. If you're sure it's fixed, feel free to close this ticket. Thanks for your help with this.

It's fixed as much as this particular situation can be fixed. I opened a feature request ticket for better error messaging.

Member now reports that she can't attach a file to a forum post. She sent a screenshot that I will forward to you. I logged in as test user and I was able to see options for attachments. Not sure what's going on.

Let me know what you find. I was able to upload with an admin and a normal user account. When I navigate to the forum page in question, I see upload fields.

Might be user error? Maybe she's looking at the activity stream.

Not quite sure how to move forward with this ticket. Do we have details about operating system/browser setup? More importantly, have there been other reports?

No other reports. Just sent a message seeking more info from original poster. Will update soon.

After a few back-and-forths with the user, I was able to locate the problem. There were a few places in the Forum Attachment plugin where it was verifying certain credentials in order to determine whether to show the attachment upload form. The code was bbPress specific (as the plugin was ported from bbPress), and wasn't causing problems for the majority of users, but for some reason was returning false for a few. I have removed that code and the user reports that she is now able to see the upload form normally.
