Description

Hi All,

there is a user who wrote into the help desk over the weekend about missing content from her site - "It’s all the content I had uploaded since approx. Tuesday 1/7"

The site is here: https://w25urbansoc.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

I am also missing a significant amount of content that i added and edited on friday on the site here: https://tlcdevsite.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

Did something happen over the weekend? Was the network reverted to an earlier version for some reason? Apologies to ask while we prepare for the migration but the user above is teaching a class currently. I believe she knows about the down time, and I will inform her again, but I would also like to provide some insight/reassurance that her content will be restored (and if not, provide her with more info).

Thanks

To add -- this also came in on the help desk last night

I'm working on a website that functions as a companion to a CUNY Teacher Education retreat. The website is https://citevisioning.commons.gc.cuny.edu

I've been making a series of updates over the past week that have disappeared and an older version has been restored. If it helps, I made a big push of updates on Thursday 9th Jan. I didn't have much luck finding version control options, and restoring an autosave didn't work either.

Laurie, can you please give specifics regarding your own experience so that we can narrow this down? You said:

I am also missing a significant amount of content that i added and edited on friday on the site here: https://tlcdevsite.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

To be clear, this means that you added content on Fri 2025-01-10, but you are not seeing it today, Mon 2025-01-13? Is there a specific piece of content you can point to? Do you have recollection of the specific time of day you added the content? When did you first notice it missing? Is content created before 2025-01-10 correct?

For the record, I don't know of any kind of reversion or other event that would have taken place in the last few days.

On Friday around 3-4pm on the home page of https://tlcdevsite.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ I added several blocks including a slider block, and edited the column block (as you see currently) to get rid the slider there and added <p> content and a button in the left column. Also during this time frame a deleted all blocks on the home page below "learn more about TLC" button.

Additionally on Friday at 11am I added 4 blogs posts to this site https://tlcassignments.commons.gc.cuny.edu/
all of which are missing now. The titles of the blog posts were (roughly):
*Pre-lab assignment for General Chemistry
*Group Dialogues
*Skimming: A reading assignment
*Building a Predictive Probabilistic Model

Are these the missing items? For some reason, they have post_status = 'inherit', which is not really a valid status for 'post' items. I don't know how it would have happened, but it could be what's happening elsewhere. Before digging further, can you confirm?

Actually, no, they don't have post_status='inherit' - sorry, I was misreading. When I look at https://tlcassignments.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/edit.php I see the posts in question in the list. Can you confirm whether you're seeing the same thing?

Not sure about this -- The revisions I was doing on this site were on pages created before friday 1/10 and so I was only revising previously created pages. It seems that the revisions made around ~3:48 are what's missing - that would be when I added a full width slider etc. which is now its missing and page appears as it did before the revisions (with slider in column instead of full width) (..related to below, those edits on the page at ~3:48 have the inhereit tag too)

One thing I did is to clear the object cache. We occasionally have issues on the Commons where it gets out of sync, in which case you might experience problems like what you saw here. Usually it's not so wholesale. Given that we're moving in a few days, my inclination is not to spend any more time investigating it. Could you follow up with reporters to see if things seem fixed on their end as well?

Thanks for the update and clearing the object cache - very weird but glad we are moving !

I can follow up with users to ask if they also are seeing the missing content again.

I have heard from one of the users who had contacted the help desk over the weekend. The object cache clearing fix has restored their missing content as well. They are very grateful. Thank you!!

Still waiting to hear from the other group.

  • Status changed from New to Abandoned
  • Target version set to Not tracked

I think we probably would've heard if there'd been more issues of this type, so I'm going to assume the issue is resolved.
