Bug #22196
closedSite unreachable
0%
Description
Hi, a commons site that I've helped develop a few years ago (jasontougaw.commons.gc.cuny.edu mapped into www.jasontougaw.com ) has been unreachable for a few weeks. I think the owner tried to make some changes to the CSS before it stopped working, but I'm not sure that's what caused this.
When opening it through FireFox I get this error:
An error occurred during a connection to jasontougaw.com. Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s).
Error code: SSL_ERROR_NO_CYPHER_OVERLAP
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

Hi Stefano,
The Commons recently migrated to a new host. We did some outreach to administrators of mapped domains in January about this, but just in case you were not informed, this meant that some changes need to be made at the domain registrar end in order for your mapped domain(s) to continue working correctly.
Please check the following documentation -- https://help.commons.gc.cuny.edu/domain-mapping-commons/ -- and update the CNAME DNS record from commons.gc.cuny.edu
to use the new one, mapped-domains.commons.gc.cuny.edu
.
Let us know if that works for you. If not, feel free to reply and either myself or someone else from the team can assist you.

Hi Stefano, just following up on my colleague Ray's post, Jason Tougaw wrote our general support line a couple of days ago as well. I sent him the following regarding DNS changes that should be made:
- Remove all A records and the CNAME record that points to commons.gc.cuny.edu and then create two new A records: one pointing to 15.204.146.102 with "@" as the host name, then a second one pointing to 15.204.146.102 with "www" as the host name.
- If you can't set up these two A records (sometimes "" is not permitted), create two new CNAME records for "
" and "www" that point to mapped-domains.commons.gc.cuny.edu. Still delete all A records.
If you can take care of this and let us know when it is complete, and we can restore the site. I am sorry about the trouble. When I was checking pre-migration for sites that would be affected, I may have caught this site during the formatting issues and assumed it wasn't being maintained.

Thank you both, that did it. I marked this as solved.
