Description

I noticed this morning - while presenting them - The Profile pages are not viewable. They do not show in the page preview from the dashboard or from the page listing. Last time this happened it was related to the permalinks settings. I'm not sure why this would have changed since 10/22.

To see the error:

Http://www.gcenglish.commons.gc.cuny.edu => Meet => Student Profiles => Clicking any profile

So sorry to hear that you realized this during a presentation -- that must have been frustrating/embarrassing. Dom, can you please take a look? Many thanks.

Paul,

I too am sorry this happened during a presentation. I do not know why, and really wish I had a better answer for you, but for some reason the permalink settings for the GC English site had been reset to "Month and Name." Which was causing WordPress to toss up it's hands when a user was requesting gcenglish.commons.gc.cuny.edu/profile/student-name.

I've set them back to "Post Name" and the pages are now working the way they're supposed to. If this happens again please let us know. But you can correct it much faster if it does by going to Settings => Permalinks and clicking the 5th radio button: "Post name."

It wasn't that big of a deal. At the time I was telling everyone not to be afraid of posting since everything can be fixed.

I didn't realize I could change the permalink settings, so that's good information to have. I will definitely let you know if they change again, however, since that would mean something hinkey is going on. Somehow, in this process, a page disappeared from the website, too. It was the Event Submission form. I've recreated it, but if it happens again I'll let you guys know.

As always, thanks.

Yes please keep us apprised of any more permalink changes and DEFINITELY disappearing pages! :-)

Yes, that's troublesome. Do you have any more detail on this? Did it just completely disappear? Is it possible it was deleted by accident? I believe that WP keeps copies of deleted pages/posts, so it might be worth checking on that.

I also first assumed someone deleted it, but it's not stored as a deleted page. The page only contained a short-code for a submission form that is part of the Events Manager plugin. The plugin creates a series if custom post types and taxonomies, so I wonder if it may also be part of the reoccurring permalink problem, although I don't think it happened the last time. There were a couple posts that also disappeared, but that was because the permalink settings changed and I just had to reassign the custom menu links. I'm not super concerned about it, but I'll keep a look out if it happens again.

I noticed this evening that the permalink structure reverted again. Should I open this as a new bug, or should it continue on this thread?

I've opened a new issue to address this bug: #2328.
